Hello list,
I am looking for some elusive relatives and that I have been searching for
them for quite sometime. My Chisholms are African Americans and they were
once owned by David Chisholme Jr, of Chester, South Carolina. I first located
them on an estate sale of Suprey Chisholme in February of 1834, then they
were in Gainesville, Florida by 1855. and they bought 681 acres of land in
1867. I have some administration papers and wedding dates but not much else
to go on. I believe that there were a lot of Chisholms on that land and quite
a few of them related to each other. These are the names who were on the
census for 1870. My great great grand father Edward, nicked name Ned and his
brother Dudley. His brother William was not mentioned on the census.
My great grand father Thomas and great grand mother Sarah. Butler, Bimus,
Samuel, Major, Elsy (female) Napoleon.
My great grand father Tom Chisholm had 15 children, ten by his first wife
Sara and five by his second wife Mary Elizabeth nee Williams. I am searching
for any decendants of this family.
Some of this family migrated to Tampa, Ocala,Plataka, Florida and
Wilmington, Delaware, New York City. I would really like to hear from any one
who might have any information. thank you in advance.
Sincerely,
Antoinette Russell (seventh generation Chisholm)
Hello, I have been on cloud nine all day, I have finally found out who my illusive Elisha Chisum belonged to? I have learned in my research that the 3 Chism, Chisum, and Chisholme lines are all mixed together when they get to White county, Overton, Grainger , and parts of Tn. This is why is was so hard reasearching them.
But My Elisha Chism was the son of John and Ellenor Gillentine line. Every one has that Ellenor died in 1804, but I had a Chisum monograph sent to me, that was in Warren county, Kentucky, the Ellenor Gillientine Chism wife of JOhn Chisum of Amelia county, was alive in 1835. She outlived some of her own children.
In this deed it names Eleanor Chism wife of JOhn Chisum of Amelia county, and eight of her children and four son inlaws and 11 children of John Estes and Elizabeth Chisum Estes.
In order of age John, James, Elizabeth not mentioned but who married John Estes, Absalom, Elijah, Elisha, Chloe not named but mentions her husband John C. May, Obediah, Pracilla who marrried a Hill and Sally who married Patillo.
When this deed was made 15 of those named the will were living and 13 of them had already passed on. The deed lists 28 chism family members. This was a very good find and some very good documentation on this line.
Anyway, Elisha Chism was born 1846, the other article stated he married a Russell? in Union County, South Carolina. I find his will in Ark. Her first name was Wenny, I think though , she was the second wife of Elisha.
I find them in Overton county, and Jackson county, in the Spring Creek Baptist church records from 1803 to 1807, with Elijah Chism and Lucy Claiborne Chism, along with Elizabeth their daughter who married Nimrod, all were members till 1807, except for Wennie, she was dismissed by letter in 1805. Then in 1799, Elisha and Elisah Jr. Chism are on the Grainger county, Tax list, along with Elijah his brother. Then I loose them for 10 years and pick Elisha back up in Ark. Lawrence county, 1820, then he died in 1827, on the will he names Wenny his wife and a son named Washington.
Other Children we think are Benjamin born 1796, Elizabeth born 1792, Elisha Jr, George Washington, Russell, and a Nellie.
Benjamin Chism married a Polly, children were Isham, Hendrson, James, Washington, Benjamin, William, Thomas, Elizabeth, and Elisha.
William married Mary Artimes Lewallen
Children Thomas, John Green and Mary.
Thomas married Albama Reeves, this is my line.
I am hopeing someone may know where they were in 1810? Thanks Vickie
Ok kids, I did it! I started another list! This list is with e groups and
is an open forum list for family and friends. It's called
FunyfarmsFamilyHearth. It basically is a "by invitation" list, but I welcome
anyone to join that wants to just share, chit chat, and have fun. And
speaking of chit chat, we have our own chat room as well.
All I ask, is that there is no profanity, vulgarity, or slamming etc.
This is a clean, family oriented list for people to discuss any topic they
wish, or just say howdy.
I love my RootsWeb lists, and would not trade them for all the tea in
China, but they are oriented to a single topic. With the e groups list, we
can talk about anything we want, as long as it's clean. And those are MY
rules. If someone posts something a little out of line, I will give them ONE
warning. I don't want to be mean, but this must be something that is
appropriate for anyone, including children to view. I do have my
sensitivities too, believe it or not! If need be, I will moderate the list,
but I really don't think you all will misbehave.
We also have space on the server where we can upload files for other
members to see, and emails to this list can be sent with attachments, or
html.
Now as with any email, please keep in mind that although none of our
people would willingly, or knowingly send a virus, any time attachments go
through, please use caution.
It would be good if you are sending an attachment, to mention that you
are sending it, and what it is, so we know it really is coming from you. If
you follow what I'm saying.
Say for instance if I want to send a picture of my dog, I could tell you
all that I'm sending a pic of my dog. When it comes it should come attached
as dog.jpg or dog.bmp.
I think we can have a lot of fun with this, and this is yet another new
step for me this year. I've crossed a lot of new thresholds in the past few
months! You CAN teach an old dog new tricks! hehe.
I belong to some other e groups lists, and enjoy them a great deal. I
even have some of my weather photos up on one of the weather ones. Including
shots of the tornado that hit our home last June. Finally came to my senses
and grabbed the camera just in time to get some shots as it was lifting and
moving away. I still haven't heard the last of that one! But, that's another
story... :O).
Here's some info if you'd like to join, and also the homepage url if you
would like to just chat. You will have to become a member to chat. That's
another way of helping keep out trouble.
You are all welcome to use the chat room anytime you like. Oh and there
is also a calendar on our homepage.....can list events.....like birthdays,
<GBG>.
Here's the info you will need if you are interested, and come on in so I
don't get lonesome!

Vicki,
I don't want to nickpick but I think you are mistaken in some of the
information about Obadiah. My information shows that there were at least 5
Obadiahs. The first, son of John and Ellender, was married twice. The first
marriage was to Mary Ann Cardwell while the second was to Nancy Lea.
Obadiah named one of his sons Obadiah, who was born in 1803..this one is
commonly known as Obadiah Jr. Obadiah Sr and Jr lived in Robertson Co. Tn
and later Jr. moved to Ky. Sr. died in Robertson Co in 1837. Obadiah also
had a son named Gillington who moved to Alabama ca 1829. Gillington had a
son named Obadiah who married Sarah Jane Womble. He died in Oxford Ms.
Obadiah Sr also had a son named John W. who had a son named Obadiah. This
Obadiah is in the 1840 Census of Franklin Co Al and is the one who went to
Ark. He named one of his sons Obadiah. This Obadiah is the Obadiah Parker
Chism. Obadiah Parker Chism's mother was Sarah Parker..hence the Parker.
This is the way I understand it, if you know something different, please
let me know.

Hi Cecelia,
Well there's more than one, but the one I'm thinking about was in
Jessamine County, Kentucky at one time. He was on the 1810 census.
http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/ky/jessamine/census/1810/59.jpg
Oh boy, this gets confusing. And keeping in mind the variations on spellings
and how the name was written.
And I believe him to be one and the same as Daniel Chisham mentioned in
the bio of William W. Chisham.
http://www.usgennet.org/usa/in/county/orange/biogs5.htm
Also noting that Benjamin and Elizabeth's birth and death dates match
those of Daniel and Elizabeth, as seen on the Stamper's Creek Church
information. http://www.usgennet.org/usa/in/county/orange/stampers.htm
I found some info on him in Orange County, Indiana. He and wife Elizabeth
are on the census, and there are a few other bits and pieces of information
on him. Here's the url for Orange county, and they have a search engine at
the bottom of the page.
http://www.usgennet.org/usa/in/county/orange/toc.htm
Then there is another one that was in Arkansas.
There are church records of my gr gr grandparents Thomas and Julia
Chisham, and in those records it is spelled Chism. This was in Jackson
County, Missouri. Just makes it all the harder to track people down.
Hope all this makes sense. I'm in a middle of the night fog, LOL.

Deah,
Do you have a genealogy program? My program will print out the cencus
forms, I enter the year I want and print them. I do not know of a place on
line that you can print from.
Louise
Huh, I don't know what to think about this, this is what a descendant of the
Obediah Chism line told me, and I thought he had them pretty well traced
out, this fellow state the the Obediah Chism in Newton county, Ark. is not
the original Obediah Parker Chism who married Rebecca Gallion, I thought the
one in newton was a son?????? I was just going by what this fellow had
researched?
Interesting Tid bit of information, besides the various spellings of the
name. The Ignatious and Dennis listed here are the Sons of Col John D.
Chisholm and Ignatious is the father of Jesse Chisholm, half Scot half
cherookee for whom the Chisholm trail is named for. By the way notice that
the Sir name uses the old Highland manner of spelling the family name,
Chisholme. the lowland branch quit useing the e during the 15th century,
This distinguished the Cadet Branches in the central and west Highlands from
their border kinsman. Be carefull of trying to relate to the adzact spelling
as listed as many entries were made by clerks who's literacy though was
unquestioned by theirselves, would definatley be questioned by present day
standards. As an example I have a copy of a emansipation document of two
slaves signed by Obediah Parker Chisum after the death of his father, in
this document his signature appears as Chisholm, Later referances to himself
and his children the name is spelled Chisum, At my Grandfathers Birth, in
the Family Bible, he is recorded as John Pleasant Chisum, but due to the
deaths of his parents at a very young age from epidemic, Grandpa was raised
by Kin, mainly the Nicholsons who his older sister (Ruth) as well as an
aunt, had married into. Immediate family of mine were and still are in Pope
and Conway County Ark. The Obediah Chism Listed in the Census here is not
Obediah P. Chisum, 1850 is much too Late I think, This I believe would be
the other Obediah S. Chism from the descendants of Capt James Chisum, may
not be remembering correctly, it has been awhile since I looked. This GW
Chism in Lawrence Co. may be my ancestor, but i don't think so I believe
that this is the GW that is the brother of Obediah S.listed in the Census.
Obediah P. Chisum would be listed in Pope Co. in the two decades after the
turn of the Century, around the same time as Ignatious and Dennis. I believe
the Elisha, Winney, and Obediah listed here are all directly related, but
from a differant branch of the family. Obediah and Elijah were common
names in our family from the late 1700's to the late 1800's. John, James,
Robert and Alexander are common Clan names brought from Scotland and have
perserviered throughout every generation. I currently have no fewer than 2
first cousins named John and at least 4 Second cousins. 2 James', 3 Robert's
and 1 Alexander. The last name on the Census dated 1870, P.O. Chisum, is
Pleasent O. Chisum, an offspring of Obediah P. Chism
fellow researcher named Stan CHism tells me that the old Obediah chism

Oh my goodness! I think I may have found, or gotten closer to finding, my
gr gr gr grandfather! I found the online 1810 Jessamine county, Kentucky
census images. That is where he was born in 1812. There are two Chisham's
listed. A Benjamin, and a Thomas!!! I am sure one of these have to be my gr
gr grandfather Thomas's father!
What I need is a form that you fill out census information on. I know on
my old computer I had run across a place that had printable forms for the
old census records, so you could just fill in the spots. Does anyone know
where I can find these? It sure would come in handy.
May you be blessed,

I visited with a sister this evening. She had some pages copied from the
book, "Clan Chisholm." She had mentioned, and I found in the index, there is
some reference to Napoleon Bonaparte's sister Caroline marrying a Chisholm.
This is really interesting since my great grandfather was named Napoleon
Bonapart.
Unfortunately the page that it is mentioned on wasn't with the other
stuff. It is on page 61. Does anyone have access to this book that could
look this information up for me?
Thanks,

information to follow through, and go back further.
By the way, Norma, I am intrigued - where did you come across the marriage
of Roderick and Catharine Chisholm? While looking through the film on
Kilmorack marriages, the register notes that marriages from April 2nd, 1768
to August 29th, 1806 are blank. The same applies with the other information
that I noted in my earlier message to Louise, that although I have found no
entries in the original records, there is some noted on the IGI, which I
find confusing.
Perhaps some kind soul more knowledgeable than I can explain this
phenomenon.
Regards,
Fran
Deah, I no doubt speak for others when I say thank you for your very
thoughtful act, and I want to say Back At You with the Christmas greetings -
may you, too, be abundantly blessed this season, and in the new millenium.
Regards from New Zealand,
Fran

Fran,
The only thing I have on Alexander Chisolm ( Chisholm) b. c 1650 parish
Kilmorac, Inverness, Scotland, a farmer, in Teawig, near Beauly, just west of
Inverness died: after 1702 (the year he acted as his son Alexander) and wife
unknown but his issues are recorded as the following: Alexander, John, Thomas
(Rev), Margaret and Katherine.
Alexander ( son of Alexander) baptized 14th April 1676; witnessed by
Alexander Fraser of Kinneries and of Symore Fraser, merchant burgess of
Inverness. I also have the dates of the other issues baptism dates.
The Rev. Thomas Chisolm (son of Alexander) was licensed & Ordained July
7th 1709 as Presbyterian Minister of the parish of Kilmorac, he was minister
of the parish for 57 yrs. Two of his sons ( Thomas & John )came to America.
They are found in Ga in the 1770's. American Colonies by Meredith B. Colket
says, they were all born in Teawig.
Maybe this will connect with other info you have.
Merry Christmas,
Louise
Hi Dennis,
I'm betting that our Chisholm families must of been linked in some way back in
Inverness, but just don't have the info that far back yet. Have you heard the name
Goodale anywhere back in your family lines? That was my maiden name and my
grandfather Peter Duncan Goodale Married my grandmother Mary Ann Chisholm in
Dundee. His family was from Kilpatrick originally.
