Here's another Culpeper county, Va., Chisham connection. Remember there was
a Thomas Chisham who witnessed a will for a John Asher in that county in
1798.
http://home.pacbell.net/jblack67/reference.html
Sadler-Chisholm
Motley-Hord
John Sadler, born 1784, in Virginia, married Frances Chisholm, January 16,
1805, in Green County, Kentucky. Don't know what county in Virginia John
Sadler was born in or anything about his family. Richard Chisholm (spelled
also Chism, Chisham, Chizm) and wife, Ann, left Culpeper County, Virginia,
between 1780 and 1790, when he bought land in that part of Nelson County,
Kentucky, later known as Green County. They had children: James, Benjamin,
John, Gabriel, Elizabeth who married Reuben Finley, Polly who married John
Cavin, Francis who married John Sadler, and Nancy who married Richard Hord.
Don't know where Richard Chisholm was born or the names of his parents. John
Motley, born in Virginia, died June 13, 1811, in Warren County, Kentucky.
Had wife, Elizabeth, and children: Matthew, Henry James, Edwin, Sally Smith,
Katy Johnson, Polly Johnson, Denny Lynn, and Nancy Witherspoon. Don't know
the parents of John or Elizabeth or where they were born.
http://kentuckyexplorer.com/nonmembers/KEothergenealogy3.html
So then I wonder, was the John Chisham who married Susanah Sublett, in Green
county, 1818, this same John who is mentioned above as being Richard's son?

Ok, going back to that George Chisham, I see that he was listed with the
Orange county, Va. Militia.and in this same time frame as that John Chisham
on the census. Hmmm....both in Orange county at basically the same time, if
I'm getting this right.
Here's the link again for the George.

I remember a John coming up somewhere, and I bet you're right. Whenever I
look for Chisham, I also kind of keep an eye out for Dinwiddie too.
Old family rumor had it that we connected to the trail bunch. Never knew if
that was true or just wishful thinking. But that kind of rattles something
in the recesses of memory too, but I can't quite pull it to the forefront.
It's been so long since I worked on this, I'm afraid I've forgotten a lot of
what I learned.

Thomas might have been the first to come over or he could be adopted or just
never said who he was.
I know a woman who never met her husbands family. He never mentioned them,
and would not tell her anything. He didn't seem to have anything to hide.
Then one day he left----on a bicycle, with all his worldly goods tied on. They
divorced and she hasn't seen him since. Bizaar huh?
Anyone have any clue who this might have been?

Now I know I've read this before, and may have sent this link before. But
now, going back through it, it's bringing up more questions. It almost seems
like something should click here, but isn't. Sure a lot of similarities in
how the Chisham family traveled. Here again I find myself asking, is there a
connection?

Here is a page with the name of a James Chisham. It's interesting to note
the spelling of his son's name as Chism. No parents listed for James, that's
interesting. I'm beginning to wonder if Thomas and some others came about
from spontaneous combustion!

I have a little more about James but still don't know where he came from
other than Kentucky.
He was still in Benton Co. OR in 1870, single age 49, but a boarder now,
occupation wagon wright.
In 1880 age 59 still single but moved to Polk Co, unless the county lines
changed, occupation wagon maker, Fathers Birthplace VA and mothers KY, still a
boarder.
He really doesn't sound like a very interesting person.
Will keep looking.

Hi Tiss
I am in the process of making a family quilt and hope to get it done in time
for our Hancock reunion in August. In the process I have stirred up a bit of
interest again and am even thinking of a return visit to SLC in the fall.
Will send you all a picture of my quilt when it is done, too hard to describe in
words unless you have all day.
Jean
I found James M Chisham on the 1860 census in Oregon, Benton County. He was
39, single, a wheelright, real estate of 2500 value and other property value
1560, from Kentucky. Guess he must have been there for awhile, will keep
looking.

Hey there Tiss!
He may be, I'm not familiar with that wagon train Chisham.
I still have stuff stored in boxes from when I emptied my "office" out to
turn it into a nursery. Boy I have got to get to diggin and go through this
stuff again.
It seems to me that there was somebody else that had gone to Oregon, but at
the moment I can't recall who. Boy, the "why" would be nice to know too,
never know where you'll find a clue.
