Beginning March 2nd, 2020 the Mailing Lists functionality on RootsWeb will be discontinued. Users will no longer be able to send outgoing emails or accept incoming emails. Additionally, administration tools will no longer be available to list administrators and mailing lists will be put into an archival state.
Administrators may save the emails in their list prior to March 2nd. After that, mailing list archives will remain available and searchable on RootsWeb
I found this on Rootsweb. You probably already have it, but just in case. I included the web site
too. This is an excellent source of land records. You can get the records from any state.

California Land Patents Database
The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) inherited the functions of the
General Land Office when it was established by Congress in 1946. The
California Land Patents Database, derived from General Land Office and
BLM information, contains deeds (primarily patents) issued by the United
States in the State of California between 1856 and 1995. While BLM has
been referred to as "the Nations record keeper" it is the National Archives
that actually keeps the files. The BLM, maintains diagrammatic plats known
as Master Title Plats, which depict lands which are owned by the United
States and lands which are patented. However, these plats do not have any
information about who the lands were patented to. That information as only
been available after tedious research, it is available now in this database.
The California Land Patents Database contains the following information for
each land transaction: date, location (township, range, section, meridian),
name of person the land was patented to, case type, conveyance type, county,
case number and the patent document identification number.
Using this information you can obtain copies of the patent file for $10 from
the National Archives at the following address:
Reference Branch (Lands)
National Archives
Washington, DC 20408
(202) 501-5428
You need to submit your request on a copy of Form 84. To get the form, send
an e-mail message to
inquire(a)nara.gov
In the body of the message, be sure to ask for Form 84 "Order for Copies of
Land Entry Files", tell them how many copies you want (get at least 2, in case
you make a mistake) and give your name and snail address so they can send you
the forms.
(Or you can send a snail mail letter to above address). Sending by e-mail takes
less than a week; by snail mail both ways takes about 2 weeks.

I noticed your message containing the name Samuel R. Chisham. My great great grandmother was Eliza E. Chisham, she had a brother Samuel. Their father was Urial R. Chism. Could this be the same family? Eliza married a Lambdin and they had Mary Catherine, who married a Hazen. That is how I am connected.

Hi there Tiss!
The land patent that he signed involved Colusa county, but I don't know
that he personally was there. Gonna have to refresh the mind here.
When he first went out, he was in Stockton for a time, and sent a letter
home from there. Last word anyone heard about him, was that he was headed
for Mud Springs. I'm not sure what counties those are in.

Dear List Members,
When posting queries, it is so very helpful if you put the appropriate
information in the subject line, such as name, date if known, etc. Granted,
it must be kept to a minimum due to space, but it does help other folks on
the list know whether or not it's something that might be of particular
interest to them.
The reality is that many people receive multitudes of messages every day
from one source or another. So it is not unusual for the delete key to be
used to thin down mail, particularly when it would appear to have no
connection with that person.
So please, put a bit of information in the subject line to alert our
subscribers as to the content of the post.
If you just say "Looking for family," then it might possibly be deleted
by someone who may hold the key to a new discovery.
If a thread gets going on a topic, and the topic makes a change, then
please also reflect that change in the subject line. A lot could be missed
otherwise.
Also remember that messages can only be sent through the lists in plain
text format.
This past year has been a difficult one for many people, myself included.
Hopefully we can move ahead, make new discoveries, find family, and break
down those brick walls.
Therefore at this time, to begin the new year, I would like to open up
this first week of January to a roll call.
Please remember when responding, DO NOT just put roll call in the subject
line. You do not have to mention roll call at all, use that valuable space
for a name, location, or date if you have it.
Ok, let's post our queries!
Best Wishes and Happy Hunting,
Deah

Happy New Year everyone! As we begin a new year I thought this would be a
good time to go over a few things for the list.
If you are not sure what lists you are subscribed to, then go to Password
Central http://passwordcentral.rootsweb.com/ and fill out the applicable
boxes for the information that you need.
When requesting information about which lists you are subscribed to, you
will quickly receive a reply naming all those lists, the address used to
post to the lists, and instructions as to how to unsubscribe from them.
Remember when sending messages, if they are sent to the -request address
they are not being posted to the list. They will only come here to me.
Addresses that contain the word "request" are only used for subscribing and
unsubscribing.
Also many times you will see a post from the message boards that is
"gatewayed" to many of the lists. A good portion of those who post to the
message boards do not subscribe to the lists. So if you reply via the list
regarding a board post, chances are good that the person you are trying to
respond to will not see your response. It is best to go to the board and
post your response there.
If by chance the person that posted does happen to also subscribe to the
list, they will still see your response.
If you wish to unsubscribe and are having problems, please do not send a
rude message to the list. It will get you unsubscribed, manually by me, but
also blocked from subscribing in the future. This is one instance when going
to Password Central is very helpful, and will save both you and me some
concern.
Or send me a note and ask for help, I don't mind a bit, and gladly will
help anyone that needs it. I realize things can be confusing at times.
Also, please know that although you don't always see me, I am here and
watching over you. If an issue arises on the list, I will take care of it
one-on-one in private with that individual or indivuals.
