It occurred to me that some of you may not know of Thomas Dinwiddies 14
children, so I decided to post the 13 I have. I only put down
definite birth dates. I think the first 3 boys are probably in this
order. Jane, the baby is a definite year.
1. Thomas Prob 1776 mar Rebecca DeMitt
2. William mar (1) Martha McConnell (2) ? Reynolds
3. Alexander mar Elizabeth McClintock (this is my ancestor)
4. James P. ?????
5. Martha mar William Ramsey
6. John Reed mar Jane Duncan
7. Elizabeth ??????
8. Arsenith ???????
9. Nancy mar Andrew Weir
10. Hannah mar John G. Anderson
11. Mary B: August 5, 1796 ???????
12. Daughter ????????
13. Jane b: 1800 mar James Weir
If anyone knows of the 14th child or who the daughter with no name is, I
would appreciate it. As you can see, there are 4 or maybe more
possibilties of who was Thomas D. Chisham, mother.

Deah, After looking over the Will, briefly, I am more confused then ever.
I didn't realize that this is just a portion of the Will. There were
probably 10 more pages, as big as he wrote. I think we need to look in the
Probate papers and see if we can find the Inventory too. This is the first
page of the Will i.e. the first paragraph was always consigning themselves
to God etc., but he hasn't even started naming his children.
BTW, Charles, the Negro slave mentioned is the one that brought the "the old

2. Children
3. Chisham
In another part of this book I am looking at it says "Thomas Dinwiddie
witnessed the Will of Lewis Herndon of Woodford Co."
This Will was written Sept. 17, 1789. This was prior to the formation of
Scott Co. (1792) Therefore we know that Thomas Dinwiddie lived in that
section of Woodford which was cut off into Scott Co."
This was written by a William Wilson to Roberta Landrum Wiley. the author of
the book "The Ancestry of the Maddox-Dinwiddie & Allied Families." 1950
He suggests looking in Woodford Co. for very early records which were still
intact in 1950, unlike Scott Co. where they had a fire.
Do you suppose the Chishams lived in Woodford Co. too?

Gosh you know I don't know. But I would bet she is. Sarah's brother Daniel
is also buried up there somewhere. He is mentioned in the book "Annals Of
Baker University" and is supposed to be one of the founders.
Excerpt:
"The Palmyra Association was a company of fieve men whose organization was
to build a town on the Santa Fe Trail, township 14, range 20, west half of
section 34. The authorized survey of this town shows that it was half mile
on the south line. The members of the Association were: Henry Barricklow,
Major James B. Abbott, James G. Blood, Dr. Andrew T. Still and Daniel F.
Fry. Mr. Abbott and Mr. Blood had their homes in or near Lawrence. The
remianing three members had their homes at Palmyra."
I got this from a photocopied page that I was given. I need to see if I can
find a copy of the book. There may be more in there.

Subject: [CHISHAM] Still wondering and hoping
With the hope that someone "out there" may be able to make a connection, I
once again post the name of John Howard Chism (Chisham) who was born in July
of 1842 and is listed as an eight year old child in the Fayette County
(District No. 2) census of August 1850.
His parents are listed in that census as John Chism and Julia Ann (Scully)
Chism.
John H. (or Howard on some records) was a Private in Co. I.C., (Duke's)
Kentucky Cavalry Confederate. On the "reference envelopes" (copies of which
I secured in the Salt Lake City L.D.S. Family History Library) he is listed
with both spellings for his surname (Chishm and Chisham) and as both John
H. and Howard.
He is my great grandfather who died on 3 June 1912 in Chicago, Illinois. He
was married to Elizabeth Brady, and they had one child, my paternal
grandmother, Alice Elizabeth Ann Chisham.

Subject: [CHISHAM] The Story Tellers
This came across another one of my lists, and I just wanted to pass it
on.
Deah
The Story Tellers.....
We are the chosen. My feelings are in each family there is one who
seems called to find the ancestors. To put flesh on their bones and
make them live again, to tell the family story and to feel that somehow
they know and approve. To me, doing genealogy is not a cold gathering of
facts but, instead, breathing life into all who have gone before. We are
the story tellers of the tribe. All tribes have one. We have been called,
as it were, by our genes. Those who have gone before cry out to us: Tell
our story. So, we do.
In finding them, we somehow find ourselves. How many graves have I
stood before now and cried? I have lost count. How many times have I told
the ancestors you have a wonderful family you would be proud of us? How
many times have I walked up to a grave and felt somehow there was love
there for me? I cannot say.
It goes beyond just documenting facts. It goes to who am I and why do I do
the things I do? It goes to seeing a cemetery about to be lost
forever to weeds and indifference and saying I can't let this happen.
The bones here are bones of my bone and flesh of my flesh. It goes to doing
something about it. It goes to pride in what our ancestors were able to
accomplish. How they contributed to what we are today. It goes to
respecting their hardships and losses, their never giving in or giving up,
their resoluteness to go on and build a life for their family.
It goes to deep pride that they fought to make and keep us a Nation..
It goes to a deep and immense understanding that they were doing it for us.
That we might be born who we are. That we might remember them. So we do.
With love and caring and scribing each fact of their existence, because we
are
themand and they are us. So, as a scribe called, I tell the story of my
family.
It is up to that one called in the next generation to answer the call and
take their
place in the long line of family storytellers.
That, is why I do my family genealogy, and that is what calls those young
and old
to step up and put flesh on the bones.

Yes I have the posting from the Ky Gazette. It has Julia Ann's death notice in it, she and her son Andrew who was 9 or 10 at the time both died from Cholera. They are buried together in the Lexington (KY) Cemetery. They were moved from the Old Presbyterian Burying ground around the late 1880's to the Lexington Cemetery as were all of the other graves in that old burying ground. I have to look and see if I can find the death notice. It was 1850 I think. If I can find it I will scan it to the Chisham-L email address.

With the many postings today, I recognize that I am quite confused--probably
having missed something along the way. Julia Ann Chism buried in what
cemetery? Where is the death notice? You have to understand that all my
genealogical study is from documents that I search for rather
diligently--National Archives, L.D.S. Family History Libraries, City Hall
Records, etc. If you can direct me to "primary sources," I would indeed be
grateful. I would also need to know something about Andrew's birth date,
Did Julian Ann die in childbirth? Any evidence what happened to John? Why
are they not buried together? I just keep waiting and hoping. If you do
have something, I would prefer a personal reply rather than to the whole
list. I need to explain that I do get lost between what might be some "real
leads" toward my ancestors and what might be more "social" postings.
Thanks!

Well they looked so lonesome in that part of the cemetery virtually no one has flowers because the graves are so old. I guess no one is alive anymore to put them there. I know they are our family somewhere along the line. I also put some that day on that Rachel Chisham's grave behind that farmhouse in Frankfort KY.

Yes his name was Andrew. I seem to remember that the mother died somewhere
else and that she was moved to Lexington or vice versa. It's been so long I
can't remember. That was so nice of you to put flowers on their graves. I
think we need a new memorial day where everyone decorates graves that
doesn't get decorated any other time.

The following was overheard at a recent high society party...
"My ancestry goes all the way back to Alexander the Great,"
said one lady. She then turned to a second woman and asked,
"How far does your family go back?"
"I don't know," was the reply. "All of our records were lost
in the flood."

It would be rather intersting to know how some of these terms came about. It
kind of almost sounds like an English term...maybe?

Deah I think this "consort" means wife. I have seen that on records that I
know they were married. Maybe they were getting fancy, you reckon???

Yes his name was Andrew. I seem to remember that the mother died somewhere
else and that she was moved to Lexington or vice versa. It's been so long I
can't remember. That was so nice of you to put flowers on their graves. I
think we need a new memorial day where everyone decorates graves that
doesn't get decorated any other time.

Oh take me with you! Just keep an eye out for anything Chisham, Chism,
Stribling, Vawter, Dinwiddie, etc. They all seemed to be around the same
area. This MIGHT be where Thomas was for a time. And maybe where his family
was. There definitely are some connections there.

so put your requests in. I may have to work, I took a second part-time

instead.
