The death of an "Andrew" could be a possible "link" but I would need more.
The 1850 census record that I have indicates that my John Chism married
Julia Ann Head Scully on 2 Jan 1838. The children listed in this census were
James (1841), John H. (1842), Imagene (1845), Benjamin L. (1848), and Robert
(1850). John H. and Robert appear living in Chicago in the 1870 census. My
question is: where would this Andrew fit in?

Andrew, son of John Chisham of Lexington KY. died of cholera 30 Jul 1849 or
01 Aug 1849.
This is all I have.

I don't know. I keep hoping that somehow we will find Margaret's
descendents. At one time Kathleen Chisham Sissom had kept contact with
Margaret.

As you know, the gathering of the Chisham's and other lines is fast
approaching. Only 10 more days. And I know that some won't be able to make
it. We sure do wish you could be here with us, but at the same time
understand that sometimes that's not possible.
And so with that, I would like to invite those who cannot make it, to
send a message.
I would love to hear from you, if you wouldn't mind. Just send me an
email, and I'll print it off and read it to the folks at the gathering.
Introduce yourselves, say hello, send a greeting message, whatever you
would like to say. How you are connected, how you might be connected, or
even if you're not connected and just want to share or say hello, anything
at all.
Even though you can't be with us in person, it will bring a little of you
to us in spirit.

>From Fitzpatrick researcher:
Name of the Scott County book: Families and History-Scott County, Kentucky-Established 1792. Turner Publishing C. 1996.
Fitzpatrick was one of 11.
These was a Willis F age 1 on 1860 Census, On the 1870 Census there was no Willis but a Samuel S. age 11. Edward Lewis Fitzpatrick (spelling) on 1850 census and tax record.
Israel Wilcox name was changed between the 1860 and 1870 Census'.Talitha Ann Haralow born about 1836 Clark County, d Sep 17, 1905.
Now from Carolyn:
Going back over some of the notes that were sent. Green County Chisms were the children of Richard and Nancy Ann Long (called Ann) Chism who came from Virginia. Most of what I have came from Green County records. One girl married a Hord and one married a Sadler. I have always felt that this family is connected to Clark County Chisms, if nothing else the similarity of names. Gabriel was on the 1810, 1820 Clark County Census and a Gabriel, Jr. was on the 1860 Madison County (adjoining Clark) census. We also had Samuel Chism who married Nancy Haggard, daughter of Bartlett Haggard, in Clark County and showed up on the 1830-1840 census in Montgomery County. Nathaniel was on the 1840 Montgomery Census but moved back to Clark County. Nathaniel signed the marriage document for Gabriel's daughter Elizabeth. Any thoughts, anyone?
Carolyn thank you so much for the clarification. That's the problem with
some of the publications we come across, that the information is not exactly
factual. Thanks.

Nathaniel married Elizabeth Dawson. The Dawsons and Chisms have been

Yes, she gave me a copy. It's really hard to make out, leastways with my
eyes. Let me see if I can pick through it a little.
Off to the side it says Chisohms ? Will.
In the name of God amen I John Aleander Chisham of the County of Clarke
and State of Kentucky being weak in body but perfectly sound in mind and
memory think proper to make and order this to be my last will and testament
in manner and form as follows ___ ___ is my wish and desire that all my
debts be justly and spedily paid and after my debts being paid my wish and
sesire is that my daughters Aloy___ ____first to have a feather bed apeace
and the balance of my property be eullydivided betwxt my daughther Nancy
____ my sum Thomas _olly. Alay? __ my daughter Elizabeth Children to have
her part equally divide betwixt them my daught Sivey? ___ & Susanna It is my
request that my son Thomas & my grandson James Dawson Shall act as
Executors of this my last wil and testament and I have appoint them
accordingly and I do hereby utterly dis allow revoke and dis annul all and
every other former Testament will legacies bequests and Executors by
____wise beforenamed will_ and bequathed notifying? and Confirming this and
no other to be my last will and testament in witness whereof
I have here unto set my hand and sel this 1st day of June 1825
John Alexander Chisham (his mark x)
Now interestingly enough, a William Hodge was a witness
Can anyone else help shed some light on this will? And correct any mistakes
I might have made?
Somewhere I have an article from the Scott. Co. Hist. Society that mentions
> a biography of the "Rains" family and it mentions Waller Rains marrying a
> Mary Ann Chisham or Mary ?? Chisham. Deah do you remember?
Ok.......Fifth child of Thomas Waller Raines, and Lavina Lloyd, was Rowan
Waller Raines (1825-1913).
Rowan married Mary Elizabeth Chisham, 1846, in Scott county, Kentucky. They
moved to Hancock county, Indiana in 1855.
Now there also is a land patent issued to a Waller Chisham in Orange county,
Indiana in 1835. Wonder if there's a connection there?
Deah
Hello Cousins!!!
In light of the recent emails by Rev. David Turner and Carolyn Chism, Let me
offer the bits of notes here and there that I've come across:
Okay first of all from a book from the Scott Co. Hist. Society (don't
remember the name), It mentions a "Brooks Clay Fitzpatrick and his family.
It goes onto say that this Brooks paternal grandfather, Edward Louis
Fitzpatrick was one of 11 children of James born about 1825 in Bourbon Co.
Ky and Talitha Ann Harlow born about 1836 in Clark Co. Ky, died 1905, she
was the dght of George Harlow and Mary Ann Chism (Carolyn could this be your
Mary Ann??) Mary Ann's father was John W. Chism. Okay it goes on to say
that Brooks maternal grandfather James Wesley Wilcox was one of 15 children
(lordy) of Israel Wilcox (Israel changes his name from Wilcoxen to Wilcox
sometime betwn 1860-1870. born about 1822 in Tennessee and Julia Frances
Chism, born 1834 in Clark Co. Ky died after 1910. Julia is the dght of
James Chism and Frances Harlow.
Okay also pertaining to Clark Co. Ky I found a note in a book about Early
Clark Co. settlers it says : "Chisholm, James - Clark Co. Dead at 91.
Soldier of 1812. Would walk 8 miles to town, KR 1 Nov 1878.
And Deah, didn't you mention when you were at your sisters she had a copy of
a will of John Alexander Chisham of Clark Co. Ky. ??
Maybe it's best to talk about these Chism's/Chisholm's/Chisham's and all
various spellings in relation to what county they settled in?? I don't know
what do you all think??
Okay, David here is what I was referring to when I asked you about where the
"Howard" came from in you great-grandfather's name. :
I found this on the Familysearch Pedigree Resource File at my local LDS. It
says James Thomas Chism born 8/20/1779 Amelia Co. VA
Died 6/7/1819 Mt Herman, Barren Co. Ky
his parents were James Chism and Mary Howard, James Thomas Chism married
Phebe Breed 7/30/1801 in Glassgow, Barren Co. KY. Other children besides
James Thomas were George Chism, Jacob Chism, William Chism, Elizabeth Chism,
and Michael Chism. Oh, Mary Howard's parents were Obediah Howard and
Priscilla Avery Breed. This info is available on CD-ROM Disc#20 Submitter
was Trudy Arlene Fincher - PO Box 342 81078 Wagon Wheel Loop Irrigon, OR
97844.
What do ya think??
I also have a Pedigree Chart that I found last weekend of the Walter Alvis
Chisholm family from Franklin, Simpson Co, Ky.
if anyone is interested.
I also have a copy out of a page of the "Kentucky Obituaries"
"Andrew, son of John Chisham, of Lexington. Died of cholera July 30,1849
aged 10 years. OR 8/1."
Also, from the Kentucky Gazette May 1855:
"In this city (meaning Lexington) on the 14th inst. Mrs. Julia Ann Chisham,
consort of Mr. John Chisham." FYI Julia Ann and her son Andrew are buried
side by side in the Lexington Cemetery where they were buried after being
moved from the old Presybeterian Burying Grounds in the late 1880's. About
a month ago I went and saw the graves and put flowers on them. I figured
they're our people one way or another. I'll get pictures next weekend for
the reunion.
Green Co. Chisham's

John 1795, John 1796, John Jr. 1797, Richard 1795, Richard 1796, Richard
1797, William 1797
I haven't had a chance to follow up on these records as far as getting
copies as this is kind of far from Louisville. I do plan to go there
eventually though.
Green Co. Ky Marriages 1793-1836
Chisholm, Gabriel to Dean, Jane 9-5-1807
Chism, John to Lynn, Esther 9/27/1798
Chrisham,Benjamin, Smith Susannah 5/14/1816
Somewhere I have an article from the Scott. Co. Hist. Society that mentions
a biography of the "Rains" family and it mentions Waller Rains marrying a
Mary Ann Chisham or Mary ?? Chisham. Deah do you remember?
Franklin Co. Chisham's
We know our Thomas Chisham married Julia Ann Stribling in Franklin Co.
Other Chisham's include:
Chism, Thomas 91, male, farmer, widower, died 10/16/1857, Diarrhea, son of
John & --- Chism b. Culpepper Co. Va. (could this be our Thomas's father
and or the Thomas Chisham that was on the 1810 Census for Jessamine Co. Ky?
Or the one who witnessed a deed in Culpeper Co. Va along with Robert Latham
Jr.?? Could this all be the same Thomas??
Also in Franklin Co. is a grave that I have seen and have pictures of, I
hope to get a better picture befor the reunion in 2 weeks with the stone
cleaned off so it's legible. " Franklin Co. Herndon Cemetery Located Sheep
Pen Road,. 1 mile north of Taylor Branch Junction. Ernest Herndon Farm in
1976 oldest grave in Cemetery is Chisham, Rachel born Jan 18, 1790, died May
23, 1851 (Daugher of George and Mary Chisham). How Rachel came to be buried
on the Herndon property is because her sister Elizabeth Chisham was married
to Elijas Herndon. Since this I have been given info. by William Clusin
(name was Chisum but changed due to handwriting error) on George and Mary's
other children. They are: George born 1782, John 1785, Sarah 1786, Betsey
1788, Benjamin 1793, Rachel 1796, Polly 1797, and Mary, and Elizabeth.
One more thing I found in Franklin Co. Listed on the Franklin Co. Ky Vital
Statistics: "1/25/1861 Jos. M. Chisham born in Shelby Co (next county over)
to Robert H. Chisham and Susan F. Cale.
I have lot's of other information that I will share with everyone at the
reunion. Not sure exactly how it all fits in with our Thomas Chisham but I
am sure they and we are all related at some point.
I will try to find that article about Waller Rains and Mary Chisham. I know
it's around here somewhere.
Until later,
Love ya Barb
