Surname: Chisham, Stribling, Johnson, Rothgeb
-------------------------
Napoleon Bonaparte Chisham was born in Jackson County, Missouri, July 17,
1849. His parents were Thomas D. and Julia Stribling Chisham.
After his father departed for the gold fields of California, and did not
return, Napoleon, a small child, along with his mother, brother James,
and sisters Margaret and Annette Jane, moved to Kansas.
They located near Leavenworth, then later near Potter. He grew up knowing
the hardships of the early pioneer days of Kansas, and was a true son of
the frontier.
Whatever he could do to help his mother and siblings, he did, and he contributed
much to the care of the family.
At the age of twenty, he moved to Butler County, which then was on the
edge of civilization, and took up a homestead. This was the first land
he ever owned, and in March of 1872 he married Miss Mary Harriet Cornelia
Johnson.
In 1891 or 1892, he moved to Wilson County, and settled on a farm about
six miles south of Toronto, where he lived for 7 years.
Although he was a farmer, he also spent a great deal of time in his blacksmith
shop, where both his and his neighbors work was done with expert care.
Although he had no formal training, he was a master at work with his hands.
Napoleon's wife passed from this world on March 14, 1898, leaving behind
eight children. The children were Carrie, Harry, Joe, Etta, Fred, Milton,
Kansas, and Adella.
The family then moved to a farm three and one half miles north of New Albany,
which was his home until 1918 when he went to reside in Oregon. Prior to
moving to Oregon, Napoleon married a second time to Izella Rothgeb, on
June 25, 1901. A ninth child, Marjery, was born. After 10 years in Oregon,
and the passing of his second wife Izella, Napoleon returned to Wilson
County and built a small house south of Fredonia near one of his sons.
Napoleon's early years in Kansas saw it go from a territory to a state,
from the Civil War to calmer times. He was witness to many an event on
the frontier of our country.
Sadly, he departed this life on December 8, 1935. Behind, he left many
whose hearts and lives he had touched. A true pioneer gone.

and Francisca Aartsma. Anyone out there know these two and do you know where
they are? These are the half brother and sister of Dan. Need to locate for
him and get them in contact with one another.

On the 1850 census of Jackson County, Missouri it has Thomas's last name spelled as Chism. His birthplace is reported as Kentucky, and his age on the census was 38. His occupation was a farmer.
Also in the household were:
Julia (his wife); age 38; born Kentucky.
James A.; age 13; born Missouri
Margaret; age 8; born Missouri
Annette J.; age 5; born Missouri
Napoleon; age 1; born Missouri
And a George Ell Chism: age 18, farmer, and born in Missouri. Does anybody know who George was, and how he was connected to Thomas?
Deah
Just a note to say that I found Klondia Attebury Chisham buried in Hillcrest
Cemetery in Porterville, California. She was born on 9-10-1897 and died on
3-9-1982 and I have sent for her death certificate. This will either prove
or disprove her marriage to Harry as the address should be the same as on
Lottie's death certificate.

In reading Harry D. Chisham's obituary, I see that he had the son James.
It mentions in the obituary that he had two other sons and one daughter.
One of the other son's was Paul Houchin Chisham, information I received
thanks to a family member. My question now is, who was the third son, and
who was the daughter? Does anyone know of them, or what became of them?
Thanks
