Looking for info on Frank Chitman b 1828 in Lauderdale county, TN. Frank was a member of the United States Colored Troops during the Civil War, along with another Chitman, Charles, who did not survive the war. His military record states that his most recent owner before enlistment was George Chitman of Lauderdale county, probably George Watson Chipman born 1805.
There is an F Chitman recorded on 1891 list of male voters in Lauderdale county, but no other F Or Frank records that I can find. Census takers seem to enjoy making up new ways to spell Chipman.
I would like to know what happened to Frank - any help appreciated - would also love to hear from you if you are descended from African American Chipmans of Lauderdale co TN.

The new reference on the Chipman family is:
White, Elizabeth Pearson. (2008). "John Howland Of The Mayflower Volume 3 The First Five Generations Documented Descendants Through his third child Hope Howland, Wife of John Chipman." Rockton, Maine: Picton Press.
It covers descendants to about 1800 AD.
White was one of the authors of the Mayflower Descendant articles, so if you purchase the book you won't need the articles.
As of today, Picton Press still has copies of this book for sale.
