Hi Randy,
Thanks for your help and insight. I have one suspect for a Lucinda Chipman who was born in that period, in Groton, CT, as daughter of Thomas CHipman and Rachel Moore. As of yet, i haven't run across any source documents linking the Lucinda Chipman born in Groton to a marriage with John Chipman, besides what is listed in the Shepard Families of New England. I am not yet certain if they were married in CT or in NY. My understanding is that they settled eventually in NY and possibly died there. Do you have any insights in finding late 18th century NY or CT marriage records, or NY death records from that period? Thanks!

I've scoured all my sources and have come up with no more than what you already have. I do not beleive at this point that the information you seek can be found via the Net and so, unfortunately, it looks like you will have to scour original source documents to find a lead at this point. Wish I could have been of more assistance.
Regards,
Randy

I am a descendant of Lucinda Chipman who appears to have been born between 1780 and 1789, perhaps in Connecticut or New York. Lucinda married a John Hawkins, possibly from New York, sometime before 1810. They had a daughter, Sarah Hawkins, born about 1810-1812, possibly in New York. Sarah married Truman N. Shepard in 1832 and they had 7 children. I was wondering if you might know more about the genealogy of this specific Lucinda Chipman? I am trying to determine if this Lucinda Chipman might be one of the descendants of John Chipman and Hope Howland, or perhaps from some other Chipman line in the 1700s in America. Thanks!

I am researching the James CHIPMAN/Charlotte CROCKETT household in
Scott County, KY in the period from 1810-1840. According to the 1970
book by J.H. Chipman, A Chipman Genealogy, this couple had five
children, including a James CHIPMAN, born in 1816. I have seen no
other verification of this person other than the book. Anyone have
any information about this person, except the info in the book? I
wonder if he died in infancy.
The other children: Eliza Jane, Joseph Venable, William Greenbury,
and Elizabeth.
Thanks
