On the 1880 Census report for Chelsea, Suffolk, Massachusetts, I believe I
have found " my great Grandmother ", with her parents, as follows:
Dan'l Chipman self Married age 64 born
in MA Seaman
Delia Chipman wife married age 63 born in
MA keeping house
Henry Chipman son widow age 33 born in MA
machinery
Mary Chipman daughter single age 27 born in
MA Sewing machine
teacher
GEORGIE B. CHIPMAN daughter single age 23 born in
MA (none listed)
Lois G. Chipman granddaughter single age 7 born in MA
Student
I am trying to find a marriage certificate or other documentation that will
prove that Georgie B. is my Great-grandmother as I suspect...!
Facts that I have so far are:
My Great Grandmother, "Georgianna B. Hills" was born August 28, 1856 in
Wellfleet, MA She died and is buried in East Derry, NH with her daughter's
family. I have photo of the grave.
Her first son, Edward Everett Hills, was born in Chelsea, Massachusetts
August 4, 1887
Her son, Arthur Hills, lists her maiden name as Georgianna B. Chipman on his
Marriage certificate.
Her son Albert Hills, lists her place of birth as Wellfleet, Massachusetts
August 28, 1856.
My Aunt gave me the marriage date of October 25, 1886 to Sidney Everett
Hills.. (Where??)
Sidney was the son of Edward Hills and Almena (Drake) Hills of Thomaston
Maine.
Sidney was born in Thomaston, ME in 1859. He is shown on the 1880
census in Thomaston, Knox County, Maine as a Sailor, age 20... Sidney went
to California and Georgianna was left with the children. They divorced and
Sidney later remarried and stayed in California. I have copies of the
newspaper accounts of his death listing my grandfather and his siblings as
Sidney's children.
A few name variations Hills - Hill. Georgeanne, Georgianna, Georgeanna
Sidney and Georgianna's first child was born in 1887 in Chelsea, as listed
on a wedding certificate of Edward E. Hills. Sidney and Georgianna were
married in 1886 so perhaps it would have been in the area of Chelsea?
So if anyone has access to Marriage records for October 1886 and can look up
Sidney Everett Hills and Georgianna Chipman I would be very thankful...
