I know of only two published Chipman Genealogy books:
The Chipman Family, by Bert Lee Chipman, monotyped by the Winston Printing
Company, Winston-Salem, N.C., Copyright 1920
and
A Chipman Genealogy, by John Hale Chipman III, printed by Chipman Historics,
Norwell, MA, Copyright 1970

Hi,
Sorry about that last note, I pushed the wrong key.
From the John Hale Chipman III's book "A Chipman Genealogy" I find
three Agnes:
1. Agnes Jane, born April 24, 1854. She was the daughter of Thomas
Dane Chipman (1803-?) and either Emily Hubbard or Mary Alice Harding. There
were 11 siblings listed 7 of Mary, 4 of Emily. No more info on Agnes.
2. Agnes Bernice, b April 12, 1902. She was the daughter of Charles
Benson Chipman (1864-1935) and Linda Anna Hurley. There are 11 siblings
listed. No more infor on Agnes.
3. Agnes Frances, b Feb. 23, 1909, died 11/23/1910. She was the
daughter of Ezra Justin Chipman (1874-1938)and Clarissa Natalia Hess. There
were 10 siblings listed.
God bless, Pam

Looks like yours is too early for my information--but sometimes insignificant
data produces someting significant (!)---Or, "hope springs eternal......."
Nancy D. b. 1820 the eldest daughter
Elizabeth b. 1825
Asenith b. 1826
Lucy b. 1831---m. W.H. McPhail and W. D. Dillon in Texas
The following 2 birthdates are approximate, based on census information
Susan Ann b. abt. 1836, m. Lewis Crooms, Mr. Hicks

Mary F. b. 1842, m. Hiram Cook
Hi Jan, This may be another clue:
Agness died and was buried in Hunt Co. TX in 1888. Hunt Co. is directly
below Fannin Co. I think she is in the Hope Cemetery, Hunt Co. TX. Her
husband Henry BRANTLEY died in Red River Co. TX. Their children were: Mary
(Polly), Ebben (my GG grandfather), John Henry, George, Thomas, Isabella,
Joseph (Josiah), Jackson, Eliza Ellen, Robert, Adarene (Irene), James B.,
Elizabeth, Sara, Emma, Ultimus, and Georgia. (I received this information
from the Brantley Association).
I wonder if Agness was a middle name? Do you have birth dates for any of
Seth's daughters? I think Agness was born abt. 15 Oct 1813. Agness and
Henry were married in Morgan Co, IL in 1832. Five of their children, Mary,
Ebben, John Henry, George, and Thomas were born in IL. The rest of the 17
children were born in Red River Co. TX. So...I think they left IL for TX
sometime between Thomas' and Isabella's birth. (That would be between the
years 1839-1841 that they left IL for TX).
Thanks,
Shirley, Waco, TX
A bell is clanging in the back of my head, but I don't have an answer at the
moment--haven't worked on this group for a while.
My Chipmans got to Illinois via Seth Chipman about the time of IL statehood.
He originally b in Maine, traveled west through Ohio to IL. His married
Sarah Lorton, daughter of a Rev. Vet from VA. I believe they married in
IL--no proof yet. I have them in Madison County at statehood (1818) or soon
thereafter (Morgan County is close by). Counties were being formed auite
rapidly--Greene County was formed from Madison in 1821. The couple and their
family are found there until prior to 1850 when they left with married
daughter Asenath, and son-in-law for Fannin County, Texas.
The couple had 8 children--7 girls and a boy. I believe I've seen the
BRANTLEY surname across the screen on either the Fannin County TX or Greene
County IL listservers. Do you subscribe to those lists?
The Chipman daughters were: Nancy (Bacon--my ancestor), Asenith (Lovelace),
Elizabeth (Bradshaw), Lucy, Susan Ann, Abigail and Mary Frances. I have data
on Nancy, Asenith and Elizabeth--who married in Greene County, IL. The
younger daughters were single when the family moved to Texas and each married
there. Each appears to have at least 2 husbands--which leads me to believe
the Texas wars--Mexico, Statehood and Civil--took their spouses. I don't
recanll surname, Brantley, however.
Perhaps something in this is a clue? I can forward to you when I see the
name again......
Jan
Hi Jan, I don't know where the Brantley Association found Agness' dad's
name, but it sounds like it could also be Seth. I am sorry I don't know
where Zeth was born. Agness CHIPMAN BRANTLEY was probably born in KY in
1813. She was married to Henry BRANTLEY in Morgan Co., IL in 1832. Thank
you, Shirley Oligney Baker, Waco, TX

I need a little more information about Agnes Chipman. I do not find her in
my Chipman Genealogy that was born in KY. Do you know approximately what
year she was born?
Mary 8-)
Hi Mary,
Agness was born Abt. 15 Oct 1813. The Brantley Association advised that
Agness' father was Zeth CHIPMAN.
Thanks,
Shirley
