Hello Monique and others
Because he arrived so early in the colony it is hard to trace his children
even.
The births I have been able to find have been :
Thomas, Mary, Jane, Sarah, James, Maria, Elizabeth M.A., and Epaulina
/Epolina
After James died in 1825, (either born 1781 or 1787) - his wife put
Thomas, James, Elizabeth, Maria and Epaulina into an orphanage for destitute
children.
Don't know what happened to the wife,
The oldest son, Thomas, was given an apprenticeship in the boat building
trade and had 8 children of his own.
Their oldest daughter Mary married 1839 to John Hall, and they began having
children from 1840.
The rest of the children I haven't been able to find.
Thomas Chilvers named his first son Thomas and his second son James.
Mary Hall named her first son James
Hope someone can help
regards
Judy

Hi Judith,
I have plenty of Chilvers, but unfortunately not a James amongst them.
Good Luck,
Sandra

Subject: [CHILVERS] re James CHILVERS
Hello Everyone,
I wonder if anyone has come across my (blind) sister-in-law's errant
ancestor. I'm trying to do a family tree for her and am stumped with
James.
James CHILVERS was convicted of grand larceny at the Old Bailey 12.1.1814
and he was sentenced to 7 years transportation. According to the convict
record - he was born in Suffolk and was a carpenter. (not much to go on, I
know)
He was transported on the "Indefatigable" which arrived in Sydney on
25.4.1815.
I have been on the Old Bailey website and got the particulars of the crime.
The court record says he was 33 yrs old, so he's born about 1781.
When I looked up his death record in the parish register, it says that he
was aged 38, which would make him born 1787. As it was before compulsory
registration the death record was very brief. No parents, no children's
names, no occupation, only his age.
In Australia he married (can't find a record of this yet) another convict,
Mary Smith and had at least 8 children.
As he was 33 yrs old in England, it is also possible that he had a wife back
there when he was transported.
Is anyone missing a James CHILVERS from their family tree?
Hope someone can help.
regards
