Beginning March 2nd, 2020 the Mailing Lists functionality on RootsWeb will be discontinued. Users will no longer be able to send outgoing emails or accept incoming emails. Additionally, administration tools will no longer be available to list administrators and mailing lists will be put into an archival state.
Administrators may save the emails in their list prior to March 2nd. After that, mailing list archives will remain available and searchable on RootsWeb
I am pleased to report that the Chilvers DNA project has taken off really
well with four results back and three more in the pipeline.
So far there are two distinct haplogroups and it may not be possible to find
a link between them. Please take a look at George Chilvers' web site for
possible explanations for the difference.
Which group are you in? It will only take a little male Chilver(s) DNA from
a close relative to find out.
In the words of a well known Norwich F.C. supporter "Let's be having you".

Hi Paul,
I'm so pleased that my entry hit the mark for someone - especially as I
sent it to the rootsweb address in error!

Hi Richard and Sandra,
This is one of mine!
My ears perked up, so to speak, at the mention of "Dutch", because my
father
has occasionally mentioned "the Dutchman", as they called the husband
when
he was a child.
I have just dug out my handwritten copy of a tree put together by my
aunt
(the one formerly in Worthing, Richard) and her husband, after
interviewing
an elderly relative in Hove who is no longer alive, Rosetta Wright nee
Rudkin (I also visited her around New Year 1989). She was a niece of
Florence, as I can now see, her mother being Rosetta Chilvers, who died
in
South Africa, upon which the father left and the two children split up!
(Descendants of her brother are now in Canada, my father visited them
once
in Edmonton.)
The entry I have says:
Florence
Married J. Meinsz
A Dutch banker. Had
1 boy died & 1 daughter
Wilhelmina who married
& had 1 child who died
young (J = Jelle)
In any case, Florence was a sister of my great grandfather John Holgate
Chilvers, daughter of John William Chilvers and Sarah Frances
Bellchamber,
and one of 13 (!) children that survived.
Incidentally, it says of one of the other sisters, Fanny:
Had 2 boys & 3 girls
of marriage to Walter Philips, one
son, Sir Leslie Philips, was
living at Bexhill, Sussex,
recently
I was wondering if that was the actor Leslie Philips, whom I saw in a
play
at Picadilly on my very first visit to Britain from NZ. Any idea on
that?
Another brother of Florence, Alfred, was secretary to the Sultan of
Lahore.

Paul

I think it very unlikely that this is the same Leslie Phillips. See
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Leslie_Phillips#Personal_life but thank you for
the useful information.

Hi Richard
I was notified of this Chilvers, but, can't copy and paste, can't copy
and get translation, can't read Dutch.
SO
I am sending it to a genealogist that I met on the net who seems to know
a heck of a lot about Chilvers (in fact, actually has a one name study
of Chilvers!!!!!)
The name
Florence Sussanah Chilvers born?? Londen 14th Feb 1881 died 23th March?
1940 Londen
Married??? 10 August 1908 in Londen, a Jelle Jellez Meinesz
Might fill a gap, or might cause more confusion, either way, it's a
Chilvers.
Cheers
Sandra
