Good morning friends,
I have just returned from a very enlightening visit to the First World War
battlefields of The Somme & Ypres. So many CHILVERS out there in both
marked and unmarked graves - just names carved in a block of stone. I don't
mean that to be a critical statement because the CWGC are doing a fantastic
job.
As you may know, for some time I have had a "Roll of Honour" on my web site
but this again is just another list of names. I have decided that I need to
know about these brave men and women and have embarked on a project to find
out more about them and their families. I already know about my four or so
relatives still out there and some others were already in my database.
I am carrying this a step further and hope to identify their place on local
War Memorials. Much work is being done across the country and Channel 4
Television are doing a brilliant job in collecting names on their web site.
However memorial names tend to have just initials and a name is not always
where you expect it to be. For example Percy Read Chilvers is on both the
Watton and Acle War memorials. Why Acle I don't know. Perhaps a close
relative lived there.
I would appreciate anything you can tell me about CHILVERS who died in
battle or indeed survived those dreadful times.
Kind regards,
Richard.

Dear Listers.
I have been searching for a JOHN CHILVERS AND WIFE SARAH on and off for about 10yrs now. I now have deteriorating eyesight which has the same effect as macular degeneration, so my quest to put all my family research into some publishable form has become more imperative. So I am wondering if any of you who may have an interest in any of the following villages would be able to help me please.
The problem is I have this John and Sarah who are recorded ONCE ONLY in St Mary's Halesworth, a baptism of their son Ambrose, and no other record of them. Where did they go to?? So many possibilities. There are Chilvers recorded in Bungay and some other Suffolk Villages near Bungay but equally they could have popped over the border into a Norfolk Village?! SO if any one has access to parish registers which would apply to any of the following villages I would be so grateful if they could look for any JOHN AND SARAH CHILVERS time slot would be 1750 to 1850
