I've heard that the Chiltons are related to Thomas Jefferson somewhere down the line. Has anyone else heard this?
My source is the Internet. Not sure where I read it, but it is in the notes
of Mary Chilton in my data base.
Mary Knight McGarr
Chilton, Winslow, Latham, Johnson, Ames, Carlisle, Knight, McGarr (major
name changes, some lines were several generations in length)
During the first winter in America, almost half of the Mayflower passengers
died during the First Sickness, including Susanna Furner (maybe that was her
name) on 21 January 1620/1621 (Old Style calendar). The thirteen year old
Mary Chilton was left an orphan, and based upon a later division of land it is
believed that she lived for the next few years with the family of either John
Alden or Myles Standish.

Do you know who Mary lived with in Plymouth after her parents passed away that first winter?
Hi,
Like Diana said, if you are related to the Chilton's of the Mayflower, then it is through a female line.
James Chilton of the Mayflower had a daughter:
Mary Chilton
who married John Winslow
and had the following children:
1. Susanna Winslow who married Robert Latham.
2. Mary Winslow who married Edward Gray.
3. Edward Winslow who married Sarah Hilton and Elizabeth Hutchinson.
4. Sarah Winslow who married Miles Standish, Tobias Payne and Richard Middlecot.
5. John Winslow who married Elizabeth ? and Judith ?
6. Joseph Winslow who married Sarah Lawrence.
7. Samuel Winslow who married Hannah Briggs.
8. Isaac Winslow who married Mary Nowell.
9. Anne Winslow who married ? LeBlond.
10. Benjamin Winslow who died young.
James also had a daughter:
Isabella CHILTON
who married Roger Chandler in Holland
They were said to have setteld in Duxbury.

I also descend from the Chiltons, Orchards and Inmans and I can tell you
that we don't connect to the Chiltons that came on the Mayflower. Unless
you connect to the daughter who married and you descend from that married
name the Chilton name did not go beyond James and his wife on the
Mayflower. There may be a connection from the Chiltons that came here
later but not to the Mayflower.
Sorry
Would like to know your connection to the Chiltons.

Hi Emy. We have been told that we are related to Mary CHILTON of the Mayflower but we are having a tough time getting information. We are relatives of the Chilton's in Eminence, Missouri through James Chilton, Thomas Boggs Chilton, The Orchards, The Inman's and so on, but we don't know how to link it all up to a Mayflower descendant. My mother is 81 and really wants to find this out and apply to the Mayflower Society. Could you be of any help? Thanks, Randy Venverloh
I guess I have something wrong in my database. I show Thomas Boggs Chilton
and Susannah Inman Chilton; their son Joshua Chilton married to Elizabeth;
their son James Chilton married to Mary E. Depriest. You stated that
Shadrack was the father of James Chilton. Are we referring to the same
James Chilton, if so I must have something wrong. Who was Shadrack's
spouse?
Ruth
My mistake, my fingers were faster than whatever I was thinking.
Charles O. Chilton is still the oldest son of James Chilton and Mary E.
DePriest. But James Chilton (born 1854) is the son of Joshua and Betsy
Chilton.
Jeff

Thanks for the info. That's what we thought also, but my mother was told she was related through his daughter Mary and she could still end up a James Chilton (Mayflower) descendant if one of Mary's descendants married a Chilton. Thanks, Randy

I don't think so! James Chilton, who died on the Mayflower
did not bring any sons with him to this country!
I have searched this out myself! Haven't found any of his sons who came here. If anyone knows of any who came at a
later time, I would like to know.
Thanks,
Rhonda

I have traced my family (Chilton) as far back to John Chilton b: WFT est 1660-1731 d: 26 MAR 1744. Does this Chilton family go back to the Mayflower? My grandfather was Donald D. Chilton and his father was Charles O. Chilton. If anyone knows please let us know. Thank-you, Randy Venverloh
