The above man left a will in Pittsylvania dated 25 May 1801. He named a wife Rachel, and children: John Shelton, Nancy Davidson, George Shelton, Rachel Davidson, Frankey Wright, William Shelton, Charles Shelton and Spencer Shelton. I know that a John Davidson married a Rachel "Chilton" in Pittsylvania Co., VA in 1786, so that was probably the daughter of Mark Shelton/Chilton mentioned above.
Does anyone know how/if this Mark Shelton/Chilton was related to the other Sheltons/Chiltons in Pittsylvania Co., VA in the 1700s? Does anyone know from which Davidson family the husbands of Rachel and Nancy were descended? There were apparent brothers in the Halifax and Pittsylvania area named Abraham, Joseph and John Davidson, but I don't know if their family members married into the Chilton/Shelton family.
By the way, has it been determined that the various Shelton and Chilton families in VA in the 1700s and 1800s were probably from the same overall family (or were there some Chiltons in VA then with no "blood connection" whatsoever to the Sheltons, and vice-versa)?
Finally, I note from some other posts that there was one or more Bennett Sheltons, and that the Sheltons had a Middlesex Co., VA "connection." My likely 3rd maternal ggf, John Brown, married a Mary Bennett in Middlesex Co., VA, and there had been a very wealthy Bennett family in Isle of Wight Co., VA since the very early 1600s. Does anyone know if the Sheltons married into a Bennett family?

hi Margaret
I have found your Chilton variations and was very interested to see you
have interests in Kent. I was wondering if you had ever come across the
following people - as Im quite stuck at the moment and would love to
know more (and obviously share my information)
Henry Chilton born 1818, (my greatgrandfather x 3)
wife Jane born 1815
no other information on them.....
I have one child for them at the moment who is...
James Edward Chiton born 1841 Deptford Kent, died 1920
wife Elizabeth born 1843 Melton suffolk
the questions i have are vast - as the only info I can come up with is
that the possibility of James parents being Thomas and Ellen!!!
also that James may have been married twice, someone called Ellen being
the first wife.
would love to know if you have ever come across these people.
would love to hear from you
all the very best
marian
