Currently there are 2 different DNA projects going on. One is mainly by
FamilyTreeDNA for those of us trying to trace our families using alleles
(markers) and the other is called the Genographic Project by National
Geographic and they are trying to trace historical human migration using
haplogroups.
The Genographic Project is between National Geographic and IBM and is
only a five-year research partnership . It started March 2005. Their
test is only for the first 12 markers. Both are using the same testing
lab in Tucson and with one test you can join the other project. If you
test with the Genographic Project you can then join one of our projects
for free. If you have already tested with FamilyTreeDNA you can have
your results sent to the Genographic Project for $15. There is a box to
the right of your name that says "join."
If you haven't tested yet, the following site give good pros and cons
for going with either test.
http://www.math.mun.ca/~dapike/family_history/pike/DNA/index.php?content=...
You can now see a major difference in the amount of people listed in our
project at the FamilyTreeDNA site and those listed in our newsletter.
Besides testers who are not interested in sharing their information, I
have had a few people from the Genographic Project join our
Shelton/Skelton/Sheldon/Chilton project. These people are not
necessarily interested in tracing their immediate families. I write to
each one as they transfer in, but so far none has taken me up to join
the testers group which has been disappointing.

Hello
I have done a lot of research on this family. I think we have been very fortunate because back to 1841, all of the Chilton families in Dudley are related.
Your William is the son of William Chilton and Martha Shakespeare.
I don't know the maiden name of Sarah either - we need to find their marriage certificate.
I have found most of the Chiltons, as far back as 1841.
If you would like to let me have your E Mail address, I will send you a report from my database, either in Word format or by Gedcom, going back to William's grandparents John Chilton and Mary Price.
Best wishes - Maggie

My mother is a decendant from William Chilton born about 1835 who married Sarah. I don't know her maiden name. I have all the Census records from 1861 to 1901 on William and Sarah . I believe his father william was the son of John and Mary (Price) Chilton but I am not sure. There is a William Chilton married to an Emma Cadman 1831 in Dudley but I am not sure if this was his parents. please let me know if you have any info that may help me match up the spouses of both william Chiltons. Thanks
