Whats up Giles? I am lost after James Chilton. I know that he married Annie Gray in 1892, and know all of thier children, but I am nor sure of James's father or mother. I have not been able to find an exact match for Annie Gray before her marrage to James. James and Annie are buried in the cemetary just outside of DesArc. There are just so many Chiltons in that area, and at the same time period. Just like you said lots of work to do.

My GG-Grandmother was Judith Chilton b. abt 1804 in Overton County TN. She married Thomas Jouett. Their children were Olive, Mary Louise, Harriet, and John Herber. Thomas's brother John Fleming Jouett also married Amanda Chilton and his sister Mary Polly married Dr. William Chilton. This is all the information I can find on the Chilton family. Any information this line of the family would be most appreciated. Thank you.

I am trying to find more info on James Chilton and his wife Anna Gray. I have not been able to find anything earlier than the 1900 census. 1900 census, MO, Iron, Union, District 47.

I could not make out the wife's name, but all the children are the same from the 1910 census. The 1910 MO census gives the wife's name as Anna, 39 yrs old, born in ARK, her mother and father were born in TN. I can not find any more on the Gray side of my family. Can anyone help?

Per various records:
Raleigh Chilton married Elizabeth Poindexter. They had Mary Ann Chilton who married Rev. John A. Davidson (and later a Mr. George Abbott/Abbitt; one record claims that she was his third wife). Rev. John A. Davidson was the son of Reverend Samuel Davidson (1777-1861) and his wife Frances (Oglesby) Davidson. Rev. John A. Davidson died fairly young in 1832 at "Chilton's Tavern" in Campbell Co., VA.
It seems that John and Mary had a son named Raleigh, since Raleigh Davidson (age 18) appeared on the 1850 Appomattox Co., VA census living with the Abbotts/Abbitts. Elizabeth Chilton (age 67) was a neighbor of the Abbotts/Abbitts, and living with Elizabeth Chilton was a John R. Davidson, age 21 (another son of John and Mary (Chilton) Davidson, I assume). Also living in Elizabeth Chilton's home are Elizabeth Chilton (age 24) and Adeline H. Chilton (age 14). Anyone know whose children they were?
John Lewis Poindexter married Judith Chilton (I don't have a date). There was a Dr. John Poindexter Cobbs, and his mother was a Poindexter and his grandmother (as I recall) was a Lewis. Note: Three related Cobbs men had married three related Lewis women. I suspect that John Lewis Poindexter was related in some way to the Poindexter and Lewis families that had married into the Cobbs family. A Baker W. Davidson, from one of the Davidson families in VA, also married into the Cobbs family.
Rachel Chilton married John Davidson in Pittsylvania County, VA on 18 Oct 1786. I have not yet determined to whose Davidson family this man belonged (though I have some clues). If anyone has any info on this man, please let me know. Thanks!

I self-published a book in 2002 - The Chilton Family of Virginia,
Kentucky, Alabama and Texas. It is out of print, but I placed in in many
libraries and archives, primarily in the south. It is available through
interlibrary loan from the St. Louis Public Library, National
Genealogical Society Collection. While a history of my direct ancestors,
it is fully documented and would be of help to anyone with these lines,
as the wives' lines are fully researched as well.

I thought now would be a good time to post a few helpful hints to make
your participation on Rootsweb Mailing Lists a pleasant one.
These suggestions are not geared towards anyone one person so please
don't take it personally.
Some of you may already know about this so think of it as a refresher,
and Newbies please read carefully.
1.)Don't send TEST messages to a list that you have not received any
mail from.
* First, check the LIST ARCHIVES to see if any mail has been posted to
the list.
*You can find the archives by going to http://lists.rootsweb.com/, find
your list, and at the bottom of the page you will see links to the archives.
*If you have missed out on list mail go to the PASSWORD CENTRAL
http://passwordcentral.rootsweb.com/ Here you can enter your email
address and see what lists you are currently subscribed. It's possible
that your address may have bounced off. Password Central will also prove
information on how to post and unsubscribe from any mailing list.
*Also check the HELP Page http://helpdesk.rootsweb.com/ to see if any
announcements are available regarding server or ISP problems.
* Before reporting a technical problem to the help desk contact the list
admin. and let them know what your problem is. There is no point in
overwhelming the help staff if it is something a list admin. can help
you with.
* If the list doesn't have an admin. - why not consider becoming one?
Just a thought. :-)
Sincerely,
Joan Asche
