My G-grandfather was Enoch Chilton who married Hannah Thompson in Aston Juxta in June 1865. They moved to Dublin where he worked with the railway. My grandmother, Maud Amelia was born in Dublin as were the other children of Enoch and Hannah. One son was named Enoch and he was born in the Palmerston district of Dublin. Can anyone help?

I have Chilton ancestors from Staffordshire, notably, Gnosall, Church Eaton, and Stoke-on-Trent. I should be glad to let you know more about this, if you wish. Equally, I should be interested to know of your connection. I think there used to be quite a few Chiltons in Staffordshire.
Sincerely,
Derek Jones
Lee Bahan sent this to a Shelton group. I suggested it be sent on to your Chilton group
to see if you can help sort this out. We would appreciate any information you can give
us.

>>School is out and I am back to digging in courthouses. I had quite an adventure in
Hardin Co., KY, yesterday.
I had understood an index, EARLY KENTUCKY LANDOWNERS 1787-1811, to say that there was a
deed for heirs of Charles CHILTON 1795 at Hardin Co., KY. The Library of VA site said
Chilton got 1250 A on Panther Ck, a tributary of the Green, 1786. Today that is Daviess
Co, KY, but in 1795 that was Hardin. Considering that Greene Co, IN, is straight north of
the Panther Ck property, and considering that the SHELTONs of Greene probably are
CHILTONs, I thought I should check this out.
I found no deeds for CHILTON, but did find a copy of the sale by Philip TAYLOR of more
Panther Ck property (east of CHILTON's) to John of Goochland 1795. Next I found a Henry
SHELTON paying a note to BLANTON and HELM, 1805. It says "in full of all demands
(illegible) John SHELTON." Needless to say this is making me crazy. In 1827 Henry sells
11.5 A to son William SHELTON, on a branch of Mill Ck. This is in Ft Knox and nowhere
near Panther Ck. More on Wm later.
I found the 1827 will of Henry and a little research shows this to be the one thought to
be son of Peter of Louisa, and this Henry was brother to Samuel of Mercer KY and David of
Owen KY. Go to Rootsweb interactive search of SHELTON mailing list and put "hardin" in
the search box. The postings of Barbara Allen give very high quality-looking info on this
family--all except for son Thomas. Now, Henry's daughter Nancy married Samuel PEARMAN.
And Thomas SHELTON m Elizabeth JOHNSON Owen KY then moved to Fulton IN had a son Samuel L.
Pearman SHELTON. If this is a coincidence I will eat my hat. Thos of Fulton was supposed
to have been b 1796 Mercer, and Thos son of Henry is est b 1794. My theory is this--Henry
was in Mercer with bro Samuel in 1794, and Thos went to Owen to visit/stay with Uncle
David--motive and opportunity.
It gets better. An old fellow in the records room asked who I was researching and I said
CHILTONs. He said a Thomas CHILTON was a preacher in 1830s. I checked marriages and
found a Margaret A CHILTON m George P BROWN, 1833, written permission of father Thomas
CHILTON proved by Wm P CHILTON. Whoa! Wm P SHELTON was documented son of Henry who
signed his own name SHELTON on 1827 will. Thomas was obviously out of town, but what was
the relationship between Wm P and Thomas?
No luck on land records, so I guess I will have to look in Nelson, Ohio, and Daviess
Counties, as well as Jefferson. Also want to check the index again as I have a note on
2500 A Paint Lick Ck, which divides Garrard from Madison Co KY, very close to Jessamine
Co. Hickman Ck property. The Jessamine Co SHELTONs have Stephen, which is a CHILTON
name. Wonder if I am looking for 1795 Garrard Co. deed (GRD as opposed to HRD for
Hardin)?<<
Cheers,
Lee Harlan Bahan
