Beginning March 2nd, 2020 the Mailing Lists functionality on RootsWeb will be discontinued. Users will no longer be able to send outgoing emails or accept incoming emails. Additionally, administration tools will no longer be available to list administrators and mailing lists will be put into an archival state.
Administrators may save the emails in their list prior to March 2nd. After that, mailing list archives will remain available and searchable on RootsWeb
I have started a male Shelton/Skelton/Chilton/Sheldon/etc. surname Y chromosome study, using
Family Tree DNA Co.,
Houston, TX. The testing will not tell you the degree of relationship; only that you do or do
not share a common ancestor. If the Skelton line is totally separate from the Shelton line, it
will show this. If you don't match, your DNA will remain on file and Family Tree DNA Co., will
contact you if you match with any other line that is tested there that matches your line.
1. It requires a cheek swab from a direct male descent. For the Shelton line this means he has
the last name of Shelton.
2. A kit will be mailed directly to your house. There is no need to go to a lab.
3. The cost at the beginning of this project is $199. After the initial stage it will revert
back to the original price of $219. This will be an ongoing project.
4. Results take about seven weeks.
5. It helps if two people in a known line participates, such as Ralph and Mary Crispin Shelton
line, or Skelton, or Chilton lines, so a comparison can be made. If you don't fit into a known
line, the test will indicate if you are related to someone else who also did not fit into a
line. There is also the possibility that you could get disappointing information, such as a
broken link which would suggest an unreported adoption or other non-paternal event in your line.
6. Please contact me if you are interested in setting up a web page for this project.
