Thomas CARTER (1750-1810) married, 1771, Molly CHILTON (1753-1792), daughter
of Stephen and Judith (Hobson) Chilton, of Northumberland Co., VA. They
settled in South Carolina and Thomas served in the Revolutionary War. He
received land for his service in Franklin Co., GA. The area where he settled
later fell within Hall Co., GA. Mary "Polly" Carter (b.1792), the youngest
child of Thomas and Molly Carter, was married to Joseph Strickland, of Hall
Co., GA.
It is said that Thomas Carter (1750-1810) was a son of Thomas Carter, a
native of Lancaster Co., VA who also settled in SC, in the Edgefield
District. The elder Thomas Carter was said to be a son of Daniel Carter
(c1700-1759) and his wife Elizabeth; a grandson of Thomas Carter (1672-1733)
and his wife, Arabella; and a great-grandson of Thomas Carter (c1634-1700)
and his wife Katherine (Dale) Carter (c1652-1703). This line of descent has
not been verified.
I would like to correspond with anyone who is researching this family. Your
