I believe that Martha Childs/Chiles is either the mother in law or sister in law to Sarah Barge, if I can just find the male son or brother to Martha that Sarah married.

I know the Barge lineage. Sarah O. Barge was born about 1812 to Richmond Barge (b abt 1778). In the 1850 census where she is listed as the head of household as Sarah Childs she is living next door to one of her brothers, so I am pretty comfortable that this Sarah Childs is Sarah Barge.
However, what I have not been able to locate is anything about Sarah's marriage to the unknown Childs. I recently believe I found a break in tracking this line down, when I discovered that Richmond Barge had a younger brother named Abel (b abt 1788). Based on other records online it appears that Abel married a Martha Childs/Chiles about 1823.
I believe there has to be a connection between the Martha Childs who Abel married and the unknown Childs Sarah married (abt 1830).
So for starters if anyone knows the names of the two boys living with Martha (age 10-16) in the 1820 census and any marriage information for them later in life that would be great. If I can rule out that neither of these married Sarah, then its possible that Martha had a sibling or other relative that married Sarah and I will try and track that down next. But I believe my best fit is one of these two boys married Sarah.
So I am looking for a male unknown Childs who would have been of age to marry Sarah Barge between 1830-1835.

Sarah (Barge) Chiles in Campbell Co. Georgia 1850, listed as age 38 b. S. Car., her brother Edward M. Barge? age 35 b. Georgia....very likely children of Richmond Barge of Washington Co. Georgia, brother of Abel....(both show up on 1820 Census, Washington Co. Georgia. Since Sarah and Edward both name one of their children Richmond...this is likely. Richmond and Abel are probably sons of Lewis Barge.

Sorry, misread...it's Sarah Barge married to an Unknown Chiles....(who may be the "unknown" Chiles buried in Wilcox Co. Georgia, listed in Palmer cemetery as half-brother to George A. Barge, who is buried there.) Sarah may have returned. Have a listing for Sally Barge (nickname for Sarah Elizabeth, usually) daughter of Abel Barge and Martha Foosel Chiles Barge. Since you didn't include dates for her....could this be her?

Sarah Barge could be daughter of Richmond Barge, son of Lewis Barge, if she married a Chiles, could be sister-in-law to Isaac and Martha Foosel Chiles of Washington Co. Georgia.

Sarah could possibly be sister of Isaac Chiles/Childs who married Martha Foosel, possible son of Moses Childs/Chiles who married Martha Koonce, who came out of Old 96 Dist. S. Car, receiving land in Georgia, for service during the Revolutionary war, where he served under General Moultrie, (Old 96, now Pickins Co. S. Car.) Moses may be son of Henry Childs of that area....beyond that....not much information is available.

Message Board Post:
I just found this thread and I am very interested to find out more about Martha, because I believe there is a good chance that my Childs line ties into this heritage.
I have been able to trace my Childs' line back to Cambell County Georgia. My ancestor Richmond Barge Childs is a decendant of Sarah Barge and an unknown Childs. Sarah is listed as the head of household in the 1850 census.
I recently discovered that Sarah's uncle Abel Barge married a Martha Childs abt 1823 in Washington County Georgia. Also in the 1820 Washington County Georgia census a Martha Childs is listed with several children (most notably 2 boys ages 10 to 16). I believe that the Martha discussed here married Abel Barge as a second husband.
I think it is likely that the Childs line that Sarah married into is the same line that Abel married into. In fact I believe it is very likely that Sarah married one of the two boys ages 10 to 16 listed in the 1820 census under Martha. Sarah was likely married sometime between 1830-1835 to this unknown Childs.
Lastly of interest in the 1820 census, Martha is listed in the 20-26 group, while 2 of the boys are listed in the 10-16 age group. This is not completely unrealistic if she had the boys when she was around 16, but another possibility is that these are younger siblings which are in her care.
Any help on making this connection would be greatly appreciated.
Mark Childs
