I was born in Kansas City and spent 9 years in St. Louis. I moved to Sibley because my wife is 4th generation here. Five different family members have owned the property we live on. I knew I was related to the Chiles but did not know the relationship until after I moved here. Do send me any info on Alexander. Yes most of the Ragans, Rices and many of the Chiles moved to Texas because of Order 11. Most of the Chiles that were in the Texas battle group did not make it back. Alexander and his wife Lettia stayed in Texas. His farm in Raytown was later sold to one of the James.

Thanks, definetely a labor of love.
I looked up your ggreat grandfather ,Alexander M.E., in 'Walter Chiles of Jamestown' to see if she had answered your question on the M.E. No. But there is some interesting info on Alexander. If you like I can write up the info for you and send it your way.
How fun that you live so close to our Missouri roots. Have you always lived there? There is mention that some of your branch went to Texas.
Look forward to hearing from you

Hi Lorelei
My connection to the Chiles starts with Alexander M. E. Chiles, his daughter Josephine Gennings Chiles Ragan is my great-grandmother. She married Stephen Carter Ragan they had my grandfather Coffee Rice Ragan who had my mother Marjorie Lottie Ragan O'Neal. Do you have any idea what the M. E. stands for? Interesting thing is I live in Sibley just a few miles or less from most of the Chiles farms in the Six Mile / Blue Township area. Nice job on the Henry Chiles webpage.

I don't know much about that side of my family but the Chiles Association at henrychiles.com may be able to help you. They are in the process of planning a Chiles Family gathering.
