I am seeking information on the family of John Chiles (1801-aft1880), brother of Jane. He married Permelia Green (?) and had the following children: Thomas Jefferson, Martha, Perry, William, John Hiram, Wade Hampton, Francis Jane, Mary Ann, and Joyce. All of the sons served in the Civil War in different commands. After the Civil War, members of this family began to go by the name Childs instead of Chiles. Known spouses are: Thomas J m. Anna Street Poole, Martha m. Elijah Barnett, Wade Hampton m. Martha, Lecil m. Carrie Boswell, Mary Ann m. Benjamin Damascus Harbin, Joyce m. William L Barnett. It is believed that Will and Perry died during the Civil War. Any further info on this family is appreciated.
Myra -
I was interested that you mentioned your Chiles relatives being in NE. Do
you know if they were by chance related to Logan Wiley Chiles, Richard
Ballinger Chiles, or Logan Enyart, or if they were from the Nebraska City
area?
To be brief, LWC was my great grandfather, son of RBC. Cousins & I have
been trying to find out what happened to Logan's siblings, Richard, Emily, &
Lucy. Parents of all four were RBC & Permelia Enyart Chiles, both of whom
died when the kids were young (Civil War era). Logan, at least, was then
reared by maternal uncle, Logan Enyart & paternal aunt, Lucy Ann Chiles
Enyart, in the Nebraska City, NE area.
If any of this sounds familiar, please contact the list again - perhaps
there is some link.

Myra, good work. In 1910 Emily Elrod Chiles was widow living in SC. Listed as having 12 children born, 11 living. Heresay is that some of the children went to Texas. 1910 census lists 5 children left at home. Ralf (Ralph maybe) age 22. Did these two brothers stay in Texas? Both born in SC by the way.

I found an O.D. Chiles in the 1920 census. It does not say much about him. He was boarding with someone and I could not read their name. There was also a Ralph (?) chiles boarding. Ralph may have been 21 or 31. Both Ralph and O.D. said their parents were born in TX but they were born in SC. Further search into the census didn't turn anything up. If you knew O.D.'s first and middle names, it would help. Also, is this Ralph (the writing on this was very light, so it might not be Ralph) anyone you know.
My Chiles' are from VA, NE, and KS.
If you have anymore info about those two, let me know. I'll do a little more research.
Hope this helps.
