Hi Marian,
There are a lot of Childs in Melbury Osmond. It is only a tiny village too,
and the registers show quite a few Childs married Childs.
I have a Dinah Childs, but much earlier than your dates, she is buried (
Dinah Colmer, she was married by then) in Melbury Osmond in 1820.
I also have mention of a Stephen Pitcher, of Melbury Osmond, but only in a
diary kept by my 4xg grandfather, 1796-1812
All the names seem to inter-mingle in Melbury Osmond. Especially Childs,
Pitcher, Miller.
I agree with you, this mailing list tends to be people looking for Childs in
America. I think there is probably only us two looking in Melbury Osmond.

Not everybody is looking for a Childs in America. Mine is from Limerick Ireland. From what I can get, that is where he was born, even though Limerick records says otherwise (I have his birth certificate from Limerick).

I have family from Somerset England. My grandfather, Archibald Childs, was born England in 1892. His father was George as far as I know.
Archie settled in/or around Chatfield, Minnesota in 1930. My mother was born in 1932.
