Cyrus CHILDS (1773-1866) is my third great grandfather and he had two
families. His first wife was Nancy Anna WENTWORTH. They were the parents of Osmyn,
Adaline, Alden, Emily, Wentworth and William.
His second wife was Miriam WYLLYS SYLVESTER (1784-1875). They were the
parents of Russel J. (my 2nd great grandfather), Nancy, Orissa, Erasmus, Susan and
Susan.
All of Cyrus and Nancy's children were born in Massachusetts. The first two
children of Cyrus and Miriam were born in Massachusetts as well but the last
four were born in Cattaraugus County, New York.
I am interested in both of Cyrus's families and in connecting with more of
their descendants. I am happy to share research information and family
pictures.

I'm descended from an American branch of Childs family that supposedly
originated in Suffolk, England: William Child(s) b. 1600-1610, brother of
Ephraim, both of whom arrived in Massachusetts sometime between 1624 and
1631.
Are there any good Suffolk sources on line for records that old? Are there
any Child(s) descendants from Suffolk on this list?
Jan Garland
g granddaghter of Deborah Jane Childs (Cemon J., James Manning, Cephas,
Silas, Jonas, John, John, William the immigrant)
Judy from Canada was asking me through the London list about
the CHILDS branches of Hertfordshire with Colney, London connections.
Now I'm not going to try and recite the full CHILDS of Hertfordshire
"scattered leaves", but to prime the pump there were a number of folks
with Colney & Hertfordshire connections.
1901 - Thomas & Sarah CHILDS were seniors in their Seventies residing
in Shenley. Three children included farmers boy David CHILDS (born in
Colney) and his two sisters Elizabeth Annie.
Three year old Cecil CHILDS was born in Letchmore but was residing in
Alderham, Herts.
1881 - Thomas & Eliza CHILDS included Colney born William. They were
residing in Shenley in 1881.
And for other slices of information: one Alfred CHILDS from Hornchurch
was a retired butler in Digswell in 1901.

I am looking for any leads on Susan Childs to George Palmer. She was
born in 1824 in Maryland and died Feb. 18, 1883 in Danville, Illinois.
George Palmer was born in 1802 in Delaware and died May 20, 1871 in
Richland Twship., Fairfield County, Ohio.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Sincerely,
Jackie Mueller
I have asked this question before, but here I go again. Anyone know anything
about Jesse C. Childs, born 1880, Madison Co. who married Della Isabella
Graham, born 1879, Madison Co. Ga.? They were my grandparents. Married around
1900. Had 5 children, My Uncle William Edgar Childs, born 1901, married
Lucille Waters, my Uncle Robert Alvin Childs, born about 1903, married Thelma
Wilson, my mother, Wreatha Lois Childs, born 1906, who married my dad Claud
Vanderbilt Fagan, my Aunt Thelma Childs, born 1909, married a Mr. Troychek first
and then Julius Stockton, and my Uncle Walter Estes Childs born 1914. never
married. All were born in Madison Co.
The story goes, Grandad Jesse shot and killed a man, unknown name, over my
grandmother, Della. They were divorced around 1920. I believe the only valid
reason for a divorce at that time was adultry.
I can find no record of this killing in Madison Co. or Jackson Co. where
they ended up.
Jesse and Della both worked in the Commerce Mill which was probably known
then as the Harmony Grove Mill.
Thanks, Harri
I haven't received a message in a long time until today. Lots of them today.

Need proof of a connection in Baltimore between Thomas Wroth Childs (abt
1775-28 Jul 1843) and a person who I believe to have been his daughter,
Julia Ann Childs (1827-1882). Thomas married, on 11 Feb 1802, Temperance
Inloes (1785-1831). Thanks,
John Ottinger
I am still looking for ANY information on James Gabriel CHILDS, Born 17
February 1889, Limerick County, District of Kilfanane.
From his death certificate, I can get more information:
His father was John Childs, his mother was Elizabeth Alton
I went through some old records and MIGHT be related to te Childs and Altons
near Glenosheen and Kilmallock. There are also a lot of very old notes about
something called a Palatine....

After our mystery tour in Australia, it time to check out the North
Country.
I don't mean Canada or Alaska, but Yorkshire.
At random, 1930 is a good place to start at Leeds where one George
CHILDS would marry Margaret DANCE. Throughout the Forties, there was
still time for a few marriages such as the brides' of CHILDS by the
name of Gladys PERKINS, Ethel CLIFF, Rhoda DAY, Dorothy POWELL and
Gabrielle GREEN.
But, a few of the CHILDS lasses did wed e.g. Doris CHILDS married Henry
KILBORN in 1936 at Hunslet Moor while Eva CHILDS tied the knot with
Harold HUDSON at Beeston Hill (1938).
Now if we checked out some 1881 Census, I wonder if we would be lucky
enough to find John CHILDS and Ellen PLANT. Their marriage took place
at the All Saints in Otley in the Dist. of LEEDS.
For those that have a few Yorkshire "scattered leaves", your welcome to

I recently took over the list and so far there isn't much participation. I

A CHILDS Call To Arms: By Brian Zelley
During the 1940's in Australia, close to 150 of those with the CHILDS
name served in the Army, Australian Navy or the Royal Australian Air
Force.
Some of the folks were born in England, but the majority were born
and raised children from "the land down under".
Edith Linda CHILDS (born in Liverpool, NSW) and Dorothy Emma CHILDS
(born 1923 - Newcastle, NSW) served as Aircraftwomen for the RAAF.
Kenneth Ernest CHILDS was born in the Forest Gate region of London
(1925), but served with the Royal Australian Navy. On discharge, he
was a stoker aboard "HMAS Westralia". His next of kin was Helen CHILDS.
Trevor Martin CHILDS was born in Hendon, England, but was a flight
sergeant with the RAAF (serving 1941 - 1945).
One of the Brisbane born boys was Eric Francis CHILDS (born 1922).
In 2000 there were a number of messages, one was from Australia
re Warwickshire - Canadian connections re CHILDS, George Henry
(1901).
Parents were George Morris CHILDS & Louise Edith LEE.
THe district of the marriage 1899/1900 and birth 1901 was Aston,
Warwickshire.
A few other Aston location CHILDS births include: Louisa CHILDS (1904),
Elsie (1902) and others.
For those with Canadian and/or Australian connections feel free
to mention your names in the guest book of Australia and/or Canadian
Connections site:
