Could anyone please help me with infor on my Great Grandfather, William
Childs, b.1853, and his brother Edward, b. 1851, both b. in Ct. They moved
to Madison County, Ga. around 1879-80. William married Nancy Shields and
after her death around 1885, he married Fannie Thomas. William and Nancy's
first born son, Jesse C. Childs b.l880. Madison County, Ga., was my
grandfather and married Della (Graham?). He supposedly shot a man (unk) over
my grandmother and they were divorced. I can't locate a marriage license or
divorce paper for Jesse and Della. Could anyone help me.

Does anyone have info on William Childs, b. 1853 and his brother Edward b.

granddad married Nancy Shields, b, Ga. Their Son, Jesse Childs was my

G. K. CHILDS of Philadelphia, appears (at least) in the 1851, 1860,
and 1870 Philadelphia City Directories (PCDs).
He is listed in various capacities of some prominence. Once as a
silversmith, another time as a bigwig in the U S Mint.
I have no definite evidence of what I am about to say, but am hoping
you can help me find out, one way or the other...
I suspect he may have the name:
George Killinger CHILDS. I have a line of KILLINGERs that cross
FITZGERALDs, and at least one FITZGERALD with a CHILDS middle name.
I also have George Lewis KILLINGER FITZGERALDs!
I can't wait to hear from you if you connect, or if you happen to have
the 1850, 1860, or 1870 PA Census! I can dig up street addresses for
you if you happen to have those, and the street names would be of
some benefit to you...
Thank you.

Seeking information on the second Mrs. Hezekiah Nichols, Lovina
Childs.
Hezekiah was b. 1783 in Weare, NH and was first married to Lois
Kelley, where in Vershire, Orange Co., Vermont she is listed as the
mother of the eleven children of Hezekiah's in the Vital Records
between 1809 and 1830.
No marriage to Lavina/Lovina has yet to be found there (or
elsewhere), yet she seems to have married Hezekiah possibly as early
as 1812. My own recent on-site search of a Vershire, Vermont
cemetery reveals no new evidence of Lois Kelley Nichols' demise.
The couple removed to Geauga County, Ohio by 1835 and seemed to have
resided there til their deaths, buried in Old Settlement Cemetery in
Chester, Ohio. There are Geauga County, Ohio and Allegan County,
Michigan references to Lovina or Lovina or Donia Childs as the mother
of (most of) the children.
Three of the brood migrated to Allegan County Michigan: Susan
Nichols
Hilbert, Carlos Nichols, and my GGGgrandmother, Philura Nichols
Smith.
Those three refer to their mother as Lavina Childs. Philura, in
particular, reported her mother as having been born in Massachusetts,
but this information came from the 1920 census taken days before her
death and her advanced age should be considered in my opinion. Other
reports indicate she might have had a middle name of Donia and a
single, rather unreliable source citing that she may have been born
in Connecticut.
Her tombstone in Ohio says that she died August 30, 1869, having
lived 65 years and 8 months. That indicates she was born January of
1804. I feel that this could have actually read 1889 or had been
transcribed incorrectly. Other sources cite her as the mother of
Lois Nichols who was born in June of 1813, so her birth in 1804 is
either wrong due possibly to an illegible tombstone or she is not
Lois' mother...or both!
I understand that there is an Amzi Childs line that I believe
emanates from Deerfield, Massachusetts that utilized the name Lovina
a few times, but I can't find anyone who seems to be seeking MY
Lovina and no solid evidence that she is associated with it.
I'd love to hear from anyone who might be able to offer some insight
AND I would like to know what/who the sources of the 'Donia' and/or
Connecticut information are.
