Kathryn,
My sincerest condolences at the loss of Jerry. I feel pained when I hear
of the void left by the death of irreplaceable loved ones. My heart goes
out to you for your suffering.
I remember an entry, the last entry, in a family bible in handwriting
that matched a long record of earlier entries of the marriages, births
and deaths of multiple generations of family members. On the last page
were the touching and haunting words "I knew them all".
IN GOD WE TRUST, indeed. We trust that it makes some greater sense
elsewhere. All my best to you,
Gary Childress

I don't believe my husband had found any connection to his Childress
line
and George Campbell Childress. My husband, Jerry, passed away on April
23rd
of metastatic esophageal cancer. To date, I have not begun to pick up
on
his research.

I am visiting the Rosenberg Library in Galveston, Texas soon; on one floor
that has history of the island, there is information, in files I have been
told of George Campbell Childress of Texas...he helped write the Texas
Declaration of Indep. and died while in Galveston; his wife and children were
in Tennessee at the time...I am not sure they know where his burial marker
is, but will find out....I feel the original tombstone, if there was one,
may have vanished in the 1900 flood....
If you have any info about him, or have already researched and know of a
location in Galveston of his burial, I would like to know....
Thank you, Kathleen Childress Holt
