Dear Listmembers,
I am reposting this private e-mail of Timothy T. Turner recently sent to
me regarding a copy of his original transcript (ie. the original
wording) of the graves before they were altered at Greenwood Cemetery.
If you want to contact Timothy T. Turner please us his e-mail at

I noticed you have several postings on rootsweb regarding Greenwood
Cemetery in Barnesville. The SCV are almost through putting new markers
in the Confederate Section.
I agree with you that this is a mistake to put up new markers in the
cemetery. I tabulated that section in 1988 and would be happy to share
my information with you if you like.
The SCV are putting headstone on graves that were unknown before. There
is not a way to know that the marker and person in the grave are the
same. The soldier may have died in the Confederate Hospital in
Barnesville, but that does not mean they are buried in that particular
grave.
Luckily I have made note of the previously unmarked graves and am going
to put this in my book.
Let me know if you would like a copy of the original transcript that I
did in 1988.

Bonnie, is your Joel Childress born 1798 (father Stephen Childress, mother Nancy Walker) the one who married Mary Edney and had the following children: Frances, Virginia, Mary Edney, Susan, Louisa, Elizabeth, Emily, George C. William Walker and Charlotte? I did not see a Thomas Jefferson listed in the children's names on the chart that I found for Joel. Was this family in Lauderdale County, Ripley, Tenn.?
My Thomas Jefferson Childress born circa 1856 in Tennessee married Julia Florence Catherine (Barnes) Moore in 1874 in Lauderdale County, Ripley, Tennessee.
I have not been able to locate him before his marriage date in 1874.
Does anyone on this site have any information on him? Thomas Jefferson and Julia's children were Florence, Lillian, Celeste, Nancy Lucinda, Jeff and Allen.
