Beginning March 2nd, 2020 the Mailing Lists functionality on RootsWeb will be discontinued. Users will no longer be able to send outgoing emails or accept incoming emails. Additionally, administration tools will no longer be available to list administrators and mailing lists will be put into an archival state.
Administrators may save the emails in their list prior to March 2nd. After that, mailing list archives will remain available and searchable on RootsWeb
Recently, when searching for a family member, had a source in World Family
Tree, with a copyright sign after it. I did not know what that was and had
never seen it before, so I tried it. Ancestry went directly to a page where
I could "JOIN". So, evidently, they are already charging to go see at least
some of the trees. Guess they can't get enough money quickly enough.

I received this on another list and wrote to Rootsweb about it. [Although
since the merger my tree is viewable on both Rootsweb and Ancestry, I submitted
it and update it only through Rootsweb.] Confusing as it sounds, all trees
will still be accessible for free through either Rootsweb or Ancestry. What
Ancestry is selling is access to a special search engine. I have no idea why
anyone thinks it is difficult to search yourself or exactly what the benefits of
this new search engine will be, but the bottom line is that all data on the
trees will still be available for free.
