Hello Robert:
You write:
1. Request the following information for James Lindsay Childress:
=====================================================================
1-1. Request the date and place of his birth and the date and place of
his
death.
ANSWER: James Lindsay Childress b. circa 1780-1790 per the 1830 Federal
Census of Knox County, TN . His place of birth was either Amherst Co.
VA or North Carolina during a period of his family's migration.
=====================================================================
2-2. Request the maiden name of his wife and her date and place of
birth
and death .
ANSWER: Unknown. Perhaps "Weaver". Some of his children and
grandchildren married "Weavers".
=====================================================================
2-2. Request the date and place of this marriage.
ANSWER: He was between 3 and 14 years old when he moved to Knox County,
TN and lived in Knox County TN until his adulthood but there is no
extant marriage bond or marriage license. The presumption is Knox
County, TN.
=====================================================================
3. Please verify the following statement on page 1 of your 28 Mar
email.
James Lindsay Childress was the father of the John Childress (b-
1780/1790)(d- After 1851) who married Sarah Childress?
ANSWER: When John Childress (b. 1830) was born in Bull Run Valley, Knox
Co., TN there were only three sons of John Childress (m. Elizabeth
Lindsay) residing there: Robert Lindsay Childress, Lindsay Childress
and James Lindsay Childress. The sons of Robert Lindsay Childress are
known from a court case and the Will of Robert Lindsay Childress. The
sons of Lindsay Childress are known from his daughter's family Bible (a
transcript exists in the Trotter Papers @ McClung Historical Library,
Knoxville, TN). Consequently, the other male Childresses born in Bull
Run Valley, Knox Co., TN in the period 1820-1840 are deduced to be the
sons of remaining brother James Lindsay Childress.
====================================================================
4. Request any additional information you may have about the Family of
James Lindsay Childress. For Example: name of each child and his/her
date
and place of birth.
ANSWER: A genealogical reconstruction is underway. A relevant posting
may be ready next year.
Regards
Mark Childress

Here is some info that may help. Have you tried the info on Hill Cemetery on Hill Road. Also my day 84 years remembers the name from his dad Hugh Lawson Childress, and some other stuff. He would be willing to talk to you about what he remembers.

A handful of genealogical inquiries have sought the parentage of an
Elisha Childress, found on the 1880 Federal Census of Anderson Co.,
Tenn.
The postings read in relevant part:
"Elisha N/Elijah Pharoh Childress, b 4 Oct 1852, Knoxville, TN, d 13 May

The listowners offer the following monologue on this topic.
A debt of gratitude is owed to Shirley Richison Fields, researcher and
great-granddaughter of Elisha Childress of Anderson Co., Tenn. Miss
Fields not only located the "long-sought" death certificate of Elisha
Childress but graciously shared it with the list-owners, thereby solving
the lineage of Elisha Childress.
The death certificate of Elisha Childress reveals that he died 13 May
1919, in Woodford Co., Panola, Illinois. [iv] His father's name is
recorded on the death certificate as John Childress; his mother's name
was left blank. According to his death certificate Elisha Childress was
born 4 Oct 1854, in Knox Co., Tenn. [iv] The fact that he was born in
Knox Co., TN is a pivotal piece of information because there was only
one Childress family in Knox County in that time period for which a John
Childress was head of household and he was John Childress married to
Sarah née Childress. And if one examines the 1860 Federal Census for
Knox Co., TN in District 6 (i.e., Bull Run Valley), one will locate that
household and observe in it 5 year old Elisha [Elisa (sic)] Childress
[v] (who will become Elisha Childress on the 1880 Anderson Co., TN
census.
This leads us to an earlier but related posting reading in relevant
part:
"I am trying to find the parents of my gg-grandfather, John Childress.
He was born about 1830 in TN and married Sarah Childress, d/o of Robert
Childress & Kezia Carter, 128 Jan 1848. They are listed in the 1860
Knox County, TN Census Records, District 6 with their children . . .
They are not listed in the 1870 Knox County . . . Census. My
great-grandfather was James Marvel Childress, born 12 September 1852 and
died 22 Jun 1916. He and his wife were buried at Hill Cemetery in Knox
County, TN. He married Martha Ezell about 1875 in Union County, TN.
They are listed in the 1880 Knox County Census, District 20, with 2

Tenn.
The postings read in relevant part:
Elisha N/Elijah Pharoh Childress, b 4 Oct 1852, Knoxville, TN, d 13 May

"I am looking for any information on Elisha Childress born Oct. 04,
1852. He is in the 1880 census of Anderson County, TN. He married 1)
Elizabeth Ward-Dec. 25, 1873 in Anderson County, had one son, William
Childress. 2) Susannah Jane Weaver-Oct. 06, 1878 in Anderson County. She
is the daughter of Henry Weaver and Nancy Jane Weaver. They had 9
children: Henry Gipson, Martha Florentha, Alice Selonia, Candace
Elizabeth, Mary Esta, Rebecca Mangaset Hazeltine, Oba Arlandrum, Roxie
Ann, and Chilottie (stillborn). After "Janie's" death in 1900, he
remarried his sister-in-law Permelia Jane Ezell Weaver, former wife of
Lafayette Weaver, on Feb.20, 1902 in Anderson County, TN. No known
children. His wives and some of his children are buried in the Weaver
cemetery on Hinds Creek Road in Anderson County. He is not there. I
don't know when or where he died or is buried. I heard [that] he might
have died while visiting a child in Illinois or Indiana. One researcher
said May 13, 1919 in Danville, Vermilion County, IL, but I can find no
supporting evidence. Please help." [ii]

Below I have pasted a copy of the general invitation for a Childress reunion to be held in the Well Spring Community of Campbell County Tennessee. Those who are descendants of Peter Carter Childress who was the son of Robert Childress and Kesiah Carter and the grandson of Rev. War patriot John Childress 1759-1849 would be the family who may have the highest interest. Descendants William, Elisha, James (Brothers of Peter Carter Childress) would be encouraged to be with us. Any one with an interest in this gathering can get information from Alice C. Littell or me.
Childress Family Reunion
Date: Saturday, July 17, 2004
Place: Well Springs United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall
168 Well Road Old Hwy 63 Well Springs
Time: Arrival Time 10:30 a.m.
We are planning a Childress Family Reunion at the Well Springs U.M. Church Fellowship Hall. This will be a carry in so bring a well filled basket and enjoy the day This reunion will be just like the ones in the past at Aunt Imojean (McCurry) Morriss house in Rogersville. Please bring as many family members as you can as we do not have addresses. We have done some research and hopefully have extended relatives from both, Uncle Bob and Peter Childress families and also the Wilder family attending.
We will have some ladies from the church cook a couple of hams for us and also hot dogs for the little ones. We will have a donation basket available to show our appreciation for the use of the fellowship hall.
After lunch we will try to have a caravan to visit the Bowman Cemetery, Well Springs Cemetery, and the Childress farm Cemetery
Jay Childress has done a lot of research on the Childress genealogy and will have this available.
So please mark your calendars NOW for Sat. July 17 and bring a well filled basket and join in the fun. Table service and drinks will be provided. It would also be helpful if everyone that can, stick a couple of lawn chairs in the trunk of your car I will try and send out a reminder closer to the date

Hello Ron,
The updated spreadsheet won't be posted until closer to the end of the
Month of March because key people are on vacation.
So, I have attached the latest spreadsheet (on a separate, second e-mail
to you privately) as I have updated it last night that shows the results
of 11 test results that came in yesterday. After you study it for a
while the commentary below may be more comprehensible.
There are a number of mutations that were identified in your haplogroup,
the Viking Group. Look at DYS number (i.e. Dna Y-chromosome Site) "CDY
a and b" (listed at the top of the spreadsheet as a column heading). It
appears, that compared to others, you have 2 mutations. Also one of
those mutations at "CDY-b" has an allele value of "38" which also causes
me to look at 2 other researcher's test results, (kit #8772 Benjamin
Childers) and ONE of which has an allele value of 38 also at the same
DYS site (kit #8284, William (Bill) A Childress).
What the other two researchers (kit # 8772 Benjamin Childers and kit
#8284, William (Bill) A Childress) have in common with each other is
that they share a mutation at DYS site 570 that has an allele value of
19. So the question is are the two people who have a mutation of 19 at
DYS 570 closely related or are the two people who have an allele value
of 38 at DYS site CDY-b (which includes you) closely related and can one
construct a scenario where all three test results show that all three
are closely related (hard to do).
My sense is that the two people with the allele value of 19 at DYS 570
are closely related and that you are not likely to be closely related to
either of them even though you share an allele value of 38 at CDY-b with
one of them. That is because any mutation that lessens the value of the
allele, i.e. the mutation goes from being a "20" to being a "19" is
rarer that those that increase i.e. "37" at site 570 increasing to "38",
which would be more common....which is what I see happening here. It
starts to get too convoluted for me, though not statistically zero, to
construct a scenario where your DNA mutations at one time were identical
with kit # 8772 Benjamin Childers and kit #8284, William (Bill) A
Childress that some of the mutations then reversed themselves, back to
their original states, to get to their present states...i.e. you once
had an allele value 20, that mutated to a 19 and then mutated back to a
20 at DYS 570, for example.
That's the discussion we had here last night. Sorry if it sounds too
confusing.
As more test results come in, everybody should be looking for similar
mutations to suggest close common ancestors.
All my best to you
Gary

Your thoughts now.

Hello listmembers,
11 test results came in overnight from FTDNA regarding the 37 marker
upgrades. It will be later this month before the Web sites with the
spreadsheets will be updated.
If anybody wants the copy of the spreadsheet with the updates right now,
contact me and I will forward an attachment of the latest updated
spreadsheet by e-mail. Just be sure you receive an "authentic" e-mail
from me by being sure the e-mail is from my Service Provider
"Charter.net". There is somebody out there impersonating me using my
name and bogus email of "Mark and Gary London2005@Worldnet".. Don't
open any "Worldnet" attachments...because they are not from me and could
contain a virus.
If you follow all that and still want the latest updated spreadsheet
attached to an e-mail, contact me (privately is best) and I'll send you
one.
Thanks

There are Trojan horse viruses that sit on your computer's back up file
and something called "spyware" that imbeds itself in your software and
solicits ads....they are hard to delete because they keep restoring
themselves from the back up file if you discover and delete them....I
use Norton software and then turn off the back up file and jump through
a lot of hoops to get them deleted. I've got to spend some time this
weekend and re-learn how to delete them.
