Beginning March 2nd, 2020 the Mailing Lists functionality on RootsWeb will be discontinued. Users will no longer be able to send outgoing emails or accept incoming emails. Additionally, administration tools will no longer be available to list administrators and mailing lists will be put into an archival state.
Administrators may save the emails in their list prior to March 2nd. After that, mailing list archives will remain available and searchable on RootsWeb
Jim,
I can only respond to your question regarding your data as it relates to my website. The
URL address was broadcast in an earlier note this morning, corrected as follows:
http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~jpcfamily/childress_dna_project.htm
Your data does not appear on the spreadsheets that are viewed from the above page due to
the fact that the spreadsheet I received from Mark and Gary did not include your entry. I'm
unsure why your data was omitted. I suspect that it was received after the last update I got,
which was around January 8.
Your data is included on my DNA project verbiage, which can be viewed at the following URL:
http://worldconnect.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=GET&db=patchildress&i...
When I receive an updated excel spreadsheet from Mark and Gary, I'll upload it to my project
page.
Regards,
Patrick Childress

In the West coastal area of Britain around Liverpool and just north of
Liverpool in Lancashire, a British DNA study is trying to gather proof
of what the DNA of Viking invaders looked like. The Wirral Peninsula
(which is the location of a town named Childer-Thornton) just outside of
Liverpool, was a major Viking settlement.
A British University study in underway to look at the DNA of families in
the area whose surnames seem to date to the period of Viking habitation
in the region. Below is the posting regarding this subject which I

I have been looking out for the results of the Viking survey part II and
they have not been released in full since the authors want to publish
them. I did find this however:
http://icliverpool.icnetwork.co.uk/0100news/0100regionalnews/content_obj

"Research carried out two years ago revealed some genetic links with the
invaders but this survey targeted men with surnames descended from
Vikings
and has shown up more matches than ever before.
Half of all Wirral men tested had matches and 30pc of those surveyed in
West Lancashire had a match with the Norwegian conquerors."
The reporter got it wrong though the surnames were not "descended" from
Vikings but they were present in the area in the 13C. It seems as if
(and
this is my take on it) in regions that have a clear history of Danish or
Norwegian settlement, if you ignore all surnames that have not been
present in the area for hundreds of years, you find as high as 50% I and
R1a combined whereas in Wales it is close to 0%.

Stacy,
I'd like very much to see your photos of the Childress relatives in Choctaw County, Mississippi as that is where my ancestors were located for quite a lengthy period during the mid-1800's. My third great grandfather, Obediah Childress, Sr., (1792 to 1852) and many of his close relatives are buried in the Enon Cemetery in Ackerman, Mississippi. Obediah Sr.'s son Edmond donated the land on which the cemetery is located.
You can see some of the photos of the Enon Cemetery and the Childress ancestors at my website at http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~jpcfamily/childress_ancestors1.htm
Was your Doward Douglass Childress born August 18, 1890? If so, I've got his name misspelled as "Derwood D. Childress" on my family tree at http://worldconnect.genealogy.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?db=patchildress
I look forward to hearing from you.

However, Roberta Childers, a member of this group, has a family research paper which says James McMurdy (Mary's father) lists the children of Richard and Mary and Joshua is included in that list. However, she does not have a copy of the will and I have not been able to locate one. Whoever prepared that research paper may have been wrong.

Hi,
Robert Childress was a son of Richard Childress and Mary McMurdy. I have an

not mentioned. I have not found any evidence that Joshua was related to
Richard Childress but they both were in Pittsylvania County at the same
