Roberta, your Sheldon Childress interests me as I have a Shelton Childress
whose name was often spelled Sheldon. He was born in 1831 and is the son of
Richard Childress and Rebecca White. Shelton married Margaret Mock and they
lived in Coles County, IL - Anything look familiar? - Andy Gilland

Hey all, I not post much to the group. But, I read the messages (sometimes a
bit late). Here lately, due to Hurricane Isabel, I have not been online much,
especially since I don't have power at home. I have to read my mail while here
at work.
I just wanted to add a little to the above from Gary. Goochland County is just
a little west of the City of Richmond. In the west, it borders Henrico County,
which borders the City of Richmond on all sides north of the James River. I
said "borders the City..." because in Virginia ALL cities are totally separate
entities and are not a part of any county as they are in all other states.
People who live in the metro area often say they live in Richmond, even though
they actually live in one of the surrounding counties. Like me, my mailing
address says Richmond, VA. But, I actually live in Chesterfield County (where
I am running for Sheriff), which borders the City of Richmond of all sides
south of the James River.
Pittsylvania County is about 3 hours west, southwest of the City of Richmond.
The City of Danville is surrounded on all borders, except it's southern border,
by Pittsylvania County. The southern border is on the North Carolina line.
Just a little info on Virginia.

Well, scratch that last inquiry. I should read more. I see from the DNA chart that Larry Wayne Childress has done the test and his ancestor David Childress (of whom I speak!) was found to be in Group 1.
Thanks,
Pat Childress

Gary,
Pat Childress here. I submitted my DNA several weeks ago and expect to hear from them shortly. In the meantime, has there been anyone in the DNA project who is descended from James Childress (1802-1862) married Sarah Parker in East Texas? Also, anyone in the project descended from David Childress/Meredith Childress?
Thanks,
Pat Childress

Hello rickysmithson(a)comcast.net
I have been reading your postings on Rootsweb.
Do you know of any living descendants of the Goochland VA Childress
lineage you are tracing who carry the "Childress" surname to this day?
I am trying to find a descendant who is willing to take a DNA test and
establish a DNA pattern for that lineage. They must be Male and carry
the "Childress" surname to have the correct DNA that we are testing for.
If you know of any of your "cousins" who qualify, I'd like to talk to
them and explain why their DNA would be helpful in our research.

Hello Terry,
Your e-mail(below)to the list got blocked by Rootsweb and just made it
through to me today.
To answer your question regarding Mitchel Childress...
"Is this Michell CHILDRESS as Henry Mitchell CHILDRESS, son of David
CHILDRESS? I have Henry Mitchell CHILDRESS b.Nov. 30, 1788, in SC?"
Answer: No...
I was referring to a Mitchel Childress born 1750 in Henrico County, VA
who lived to be 94 years old. That Mitchel Childress married in Amherst
County, VA, moved to Georgia, then moved back to Wilkes County, NC for
the duration of the Revolutionary War, then moved to Greene County, TN
for one year and then on the Knox County, TN circa 1794 where he lived
out the balance of his life until his death in 1844. He fought in the
Revolutionary War and received a pension in later years and it is the
pension application that provides most of the information on Mitchel
Childress, b. 1750.
The DNA tests are continuing to come in and I'll be posting some new
results shortly.
Current DNA results, though sketchy and always subject to updating and
verification of the paper research, seem to indicate the Childresses
related to David Childress are in Group One DNA results, and those in
Knox County, TN where Mitchel Childress b. 1750 lived and died are
anticipated to be in Group Two DNA results.
I'd expect Mitchel Childress's (b. 1750) DNA test (Bonnie Childress
LeBlanc, a descendant has submitted some DNA) will show that he is
related to others in Knox County, TN...but one never can be sure until
these tests results are completed. We'll just have to wait and see. The
results for Mitchel Childress, b. 1750, will be finished in about 6
weeks.
If anybody on this list knows any male Childress who has not taken a DNA
test.....it is becoming increasing apparent that every living
Childress-Childers descendants, who are male and who still carry that
surname, should take a DNA test if they are serious about their
research. Nothing will advance everyone's research as much as these DNA
tests. There are now 6 different DNA patterns for Childers-Childress
testing parties. It is imperative to find out which group your
ancestors are in so that you do not mistakenly attach to records
belonging to another group. The only way to know which DNA group you
are in is to have a present day descendant...who is male....and carries
the Childress-Childers etc surnames to take a DNA test.
Contact me and I can have a test kit mailed to you...The test will cost
you $171 but it is the best money you will ever spend on your research.
There are just too many ways for paper research to create errors. The
DNA test is the way forward to establish the truth about your researched
ancestors. Mitchel Childress b. 1750 vs. Henry Mitchel Childress, AKA
Mitchel Childress, b. 1788 is an example of what DNA can tell us.....are
they related....compare the DNA of their descendants to find out.
Every researcher is pondering the paper trail....stop researching for
the time being....find a living descendant...and get some DNA. It will
help tremendously, immeasurable....sort out these lineages.
If anybody wants the latest DNA Spreadsheet that is more current than
the Family Association Web site....please contact me and I'll send it to
you as an Attachment. It has 22 results and the oldest verifiable
ancestor for the testing party.

Hello Greg,
We don't know who these people are. They are not the descendants of
Flemming Cobb, as far a I can tell. We have no reason to believe they
are from Kanawha County, WVA. But we just don't know. We will be
posting this on other forums and perhaps someone may recognize it.
Gary

Is this the Cobb family that came to Kanawha/Lincoln County WV in the
early
1800's?

Hello - Please read the instructions provided below from Judy Hurst
(juhurst(a)hotmail.com). I have included an important update as well. Those
of you who know my Mom (Betty Cates) also know that I am her son, Gary. I
look after her PC machine as Administrator. Those of you who don't know me,
need to feel comfortable that the advice I am providing below comes from 30
years experience in Information Technology, a B.S. in Computer Science, and
I am a Database Administrator professionally.
[Not that I have an ego. ;-) ]
Originally from Judy Hurst: "I was just informed that my address book has
been infected with a virus. As a result, so has yours because your address
is in my book. The virus is called jdbgmgr.exe It cannot be detected by
Norton or McAfee Anti-virus programs. It sits quietly for about 14 days
before damaging the system. It is sent automatically by messenger and
address book, whether or not you send email. The good news is that it is
easy to get rid of! Just follow these simple steps and you should have no
problem:
1. Go to Start, then Find or Search
2. In files/folders, write the name: jdbgmgr.exe
3.Be sure to search in your "C" drive for jdbgmgr.exe
4. click Find or Search
5. The virus has a teddy bear logo with the name "jdbgmgr.exe". DO NOT
OPEN!!!!!
6. RIGHT click and delete it
7. Go to the recycle bin and delete it there also.
IF YOU FIND THE VIRUS, YOU MUST CONTACT EVERYONE IN YOUR ADDRESS BOOK. (You
may want to just cut and paste this email, replacing your name for mine and
send it out). Sorry for all the trouble, but this is something I had no
control over. I received it by someone else's address book, just as you may
have received it from me and also you may have uncontrollably sent it to
those in you address book. Sorry about this everyone, it was very easy to
find and delete. Just received this from one of my friends and sure enough I
followed the steps and the virus was there. Please do the same. Please send
this email to everyone that is in your address book so that they will be
able to delete the virus."
- Judy -
Gary's Update Instructions:
The above instructions will remove this "worm" (jdbgmgr.exe) from your "C"
Drive. However, It is a "worm" and as such is persistent and
self-resurrecting. The bugger hides away in the windows registry! I was
able to get rid of it on my Mom's (Betty Cates) PC machine. Working with
the windows registry can be dangerous, so please follow my instructions
exactly.
(1) First, complete Judy's instructions above with "Administrator
privileges". Don't forget to empty your Recycle Bin.
(2) Select "Start" and then "Run...". Type in "regedit" and select "OK".
( The "Registry Editor" window will appear and "My Computer" should be
highlighted/selected.)
(3) Select "Edit" from the window's task bar and then select "find" from
the pop-down window.
(4) Inside the "Find what:" prompt type in "jdbgmgr.exe" and then select
"Find Next". (The search will take place until an occurrence of the "worm"
appears in the right side of the "Registry Editor" window.
(5) Select (highlight) the entry "jdbgmgr.exe" and right click your mouse,
then select "delete".
(6) You will need to repeat steps (2) through (5) until you no longer find
the "worm" in the registry. (I had to repeat the process at least four
times before the registry was clear of the bugger.)
(7) Log off your PC machine and completely power it down, then power it
back on (cold start) and log on again with "Administrator privileges".
(This will flush your system's RAM memory clean.)
(8) You will need to repeat steps (2) through (6) again until you no longer
find the "worm" in the registry. (I told you the bugger was persistent and
self-resurrecting. I had to delete the "worm" [jdbgmgr.exe] and the folder
[FilesNamedMRU] that was holding it [to the left side of the "Registry
Editor" window]. I only had to make two passes of steps (2) through (6) and
when I "restarted" my Mom's PC machine its was finally clear of the "worm".)
Good luck ! I hope this helps you get the "worm" (AKA, "TeddyBear")
completely out of your system.

They are son's of my brother Charles. Shame I am a female, I would surely do
