Can't watch TV and play on my computer at the same time. I have trouble walking

For anyone who might need this information, I found the following while
searching for my ggggrandfather. (Needless to say, I still haven't found him,
yet)
Lavine Childers age 28 born in Kentucky can read and write
Martha age 4 born in Indiana
Mary age 2 born in Indiana
Kathy
Gary, the information on Francis Ware Childress was given to me by
another family member. She had wrote that he lived in Edgefield, SC at
the age of 60 to 70 years old. and she listed that he had two children
that we know of right now. There names were Nancy Childress who married
George Riley she died January 9, 1894 in Monroeville, Monroe County,
Alabama. James Childress who married Edwina Curry and they got married
December 20 1837 in Monroe County Alabama.
I don't know if this helps. I wish I could get a hold of the cousin that
give this information to me.

Today as I was in my garden, I seen that the my peach trees were blooming.
Although the thought of fresh home grow peaches crossed my mind, I could not
but think of the peach orchard at Shiloh when the gun fire made the blossoms
"fall like snow."
Shiloh was 140 years ago this last week, many of our Childers/Childress
fought in this battle. I've comprised a list of the men that more than likely
were there. I cannot say it's 100% correct, if one wants to check on an
ancestor that might have been there, we can track that down a little tighter.

James we think was born about 1800 in Virginia and was married on

If only these men could speak!
>From the the cemetery records of Brown Twn., Washington County, Indiana:"The
only known Confederate veteran buried in the township was Paton F. Childress,
buried at Mount Carmel. He was probably related to the Childers family of
Brown Township and is buried next to William Childers, a soldier for the
union. Childress (the name is spelled Childers in Union records)enlisted for
one year at Nashville, Tennesse on July 8, 1861 in Company H, 26th Regiment
Tennesse Infantry. On July 2, 1862 he reenlisted for the duration of the war
in Captain Bradshaws Independant Company of Rangers at Ringgold, Georgia. By
order of General Bragg, he was transfered to Company I 1st, Confederate
Regiment on December 1, 1862. Promoted to Corporal Feburary 20, 1864, he was
captured near Atlanta, Georgia July 20, 1864. Sometime later, he was sent to
the militery prison (*first to Louisville, Ky. my note--jack) Camp Douglass,
Illinois where, on March 25 1865, he took the oath of allegiance to the
United States and enlisted Company E, U.S. Volunteers. At this time, he
claimed he had always been a loyal citizen, and enlisted in the rebel army
only to avoid conscription, and that he did not desire to return south to be
exchanged. He died in 1885.

Greetings to All!
As I have seen mentioned, ROOTSWEB.COM is allowing us to acknowledge our
volunteers this month, I thought, What a Great Idea!
I wanted to make sure that my appreciation for the tremendous work and
dedication of MARK and GARY, as the Childress/Childers List Administrators
and the wealth of information shared through THEM and ALL the OTHERS on this
list gets the highest praise and a resounding THANK YOU!
Each time anyone shares with a list they are voluntarily offering their
knowledge, research, insight or even just a hunch.
It may very well be of great significance to someone else or it may not, but
the point is that it was GIVEN!
On this list...
Whether we are Childress, Childers or any other variation there of...
Our Experts and provers, or those just wanting a glimpse of the ones that
came before us (holding our breath for a castle as opposed to a cave...and
wondering if it was really an egg, after all!) can ALL come together, as...
We have a kindred spirit...if not a kinship that connects us,
and we do GIVE that to each other!
Blessings to EACH of You for VOLUNTARILY GIVING!
Debbie
This takes NOTHING away from anyone else, but a personal Thank You goes to
MICHELLE, for making me smile : ) and for INJACK1, for being a great
Genealogy Gleaner and Giver and apparently a great gardener too! We may
spell it different but those veggies and berries must give us connecting
"roots" somewhere! <grin>
Please go to Genforum, Childress Family, and read message no 46. It is
from Ann Chambless who probably knows as much about Mitchell Childress as
anyone.

I know the title had everybody wondering what was going on. Just a hint on
what to do with an old refrigerator. It's a great place to store all those
important files and photos. We took all our photos, important records,
genealogy files and put them in archive boxes for storage in a junk
refrigerator on the back porch locked up. I know the refrigerator sounds
crazy but, they are more fireproof than the fireproof boxes you can buy. An
old fridge will go through any house fire and still protect the contents.
Their bigger and they keep every thing dry and with a good hasp and padlock
they'll even stand up to a tornado with out opening.
