Re: [Childress Research] Major Childress of late 18th Century Amherst County
by Conduff G. Childress, Jr.
Mark,
Since I am the guilty party who posted the speculation I guess I
should be the one to respond to your post. I am quite happy to see posted a
resolution to the question "Were there two Major Childresses (not father and
son) living at the same time?" Now I know that the answer to the question
is affirmative. And, I managed to get the side benefit of a post of a lot
of information relative to one of the Major Childresses. Many thanks.
I do have a question though. Since I am very likely related to the
Stokes Co NC Armajor/Major Childress Sr. (my ancestor who was his
contemporary was likely his borther or at worst his first cousin) and I am
working on trying to figure out these Childresses along with where (other
than Pittsylvania Co VA) they and their ancestors were located in VA prior
to coming to Stokes Co, your comment about the closest provisional
relationship between the two Major Childresses interests me very much. You
apparently have information that I have not seen posted (be it speculation
or better said a working hypothesis) about how these men were related. How
about posting this and call it what it is -- a working hypothesis? Or if
you don't want to post it how about emailing me directly so I too can
participate in researching this question.
Again thanks.
Con
