[Childress Research] ISAAC son of JOHN son of MITCHELL CHILDRESS ???
by Jackson Cty Historical Association
BlankKay's Cherokee data posted today made mental "sparks fly" in my mind. She quoted from Emmet Starr's book as follows:
Agnes married Isaac Childress SON OF John Childress SON of Mitchell Childress.
THE REASON FOR THIS POSTING:
Would you seasoned and dedicated research detectives help me figure this one out?
If the above Isaac IS a grandson of Mitchell Childress, Sr. (1750-1844), then there are some strong ties of the many Childress
families found in the 1840 and 1850 Marshall County, AL censuses.
Robert and Delilah Childress are found on the 1840 and 1850 Marshall Co, AL censuses. Robert Childress married Delilah (maiden
name unknown) and is thought to be the son of the John Childress who married Polly Kirby in 1796 in Blount Co, TN and moved to
Jackson Co, AL circa 1820.
NOTE: For the benefit of those not completely familiar with North Alabama history, Marshall County was created out of a portion
of Jackson County, AL, in 1836.
Greg and Mark think the John who married Polly Kirby was a son of Mitchell Childress, Sr. who died in Knox Co, TN in 1844.
THEREFORE, Emmet Starr's statement relative to ancestry of Isaac Childress would lead one to believe that Isaac's sons would be
nephews of the Robert Childress found in the 1840 and 1850 Marshall Co, AL censuses.
There would also be a family connection with the two daughters of John Childress, Sr.. (1759-1849) who married Hinds/Hynds and
moved to Marshall Co, AL before 1850. IF John Childress, Sr. (1759-1849) and Mitchell Childress, Sr. (1750-1844) are brothers,
then John's daughters would be first cousins of the John who married Polly Kirby, and in turn, the Hinds/Hynds ladies would be
second cousins of Robert (who married Delilah) and Isaac (who married Agnes.)
Based on that theory and going on down the genealogical scale, we could say that Isaac and Robert's children would be third
cousins of the Hinds/Hynds ladies who moved from Knox Co, TN to Marshall Co, AL.
GREG and MARK: Help me out here. What do you think about the new (to me) info posted by Kay relative to Emmet Starr's version
of lineage of Isaac Childress who married Agnes?
