Beginning March 2nd, 2020 the Mailing Lists functionality on RootsWeb will be discontinued. Users will no longer be able to send outgoing emails or accept incoming emails. Additionally, administration tools will no longer be available to list administrators and mailing lists will be put into an archival state.
Administrators may save the emails in their list prior to March 2nd. After that, mailing list archives will remain available and searchable on RootsWeb
My comments: Maybe this will work better.

Now that you found grandpa in the Civil War, go follow his steps.
I have linked up with another site that has most regimental histories at
least in capsule form. Remember what his regiment was on the index, and
follow his steps in history by following my new links.
(more to come)

cannot access confederate pension record from Virginia at your CW web site,
can you offer help.
If you have a civil war veteran in you line from VA. It is now possible to
access confederate pension records and widows pension records from the Va.
page at my CW Site. A must see for any one that has a line here. A wealth of
information most of the time. If you read throught some of these it makes you
want to shed a tear . To imagine the pain and suffering of these men. There
weren't no insurance, or welfare back then. I t would have been tough. I
recall One fella was wounded 7x . Any way make sure to view the images when
you get to the link the're all the way to the bottom
If you got the time and or interest, these 2 sites offer thousands of antique
books and journals of historic note and importance printed between 1815-1926.
great search engine. Look for ancestors, or just browse.
The Cornell site has The war of the rebellion: a compilation of the official
records of the Union and Confederate armies.
this is a 128 vol. set printed by the goverment around the turn of the last
century. One of my favorites, and a must for every Civil War nut like me.
plenty of other stuff too,though.

Hi Ron, I am of the Kentucky Childresses. My mom, Mary Edna Childress
daughter of James Elbert C. and Ambie Goodwin married S.E. White. My
grandfather, James Elbert who I call Papa Childress was only 3 months old
when his father William Marion Jr. born in Charlotte Co. Va died 1871, he was
born 1827 and his father William Marion Childress, Sr born(1785-1865), both
of these grandfathers died in Caldwell Co. Ky. There are lots of our family
from Goochland. We believe our immigrant Childress was Abraham, born in
Leeds, England, came to Jamestown, Va aroun;d 1630 and died about 1680. You
will find the records scanty and much confusion because there are many
Williams and Johns. I have been on the Childress search for some time,
recently came back from a weeks study at Salt Lake City Utah where they do
have lots of records, but the trail of the Childresses still leaves many
unanswered queries. I hope you can help me, if I have any answers for you I
will gladly share. Sincerely, Dorothy Hester White Harkins
William Marion Childress, Jr. was born 5 July,1827 in Charlotte Co, Va. , he
was married in Trigg Co, Ky Mar. 1851 and died in Caldwell Co., Ky 27 April,
1871. So he no doubt was in Kentucky during the Civil War. One relative
thought he was inducted into the Union forces I think at Smithland, Ky.
Thanks for your help;
Got about 1300-1400 Childers/Childress that were in the CIVIL war. From
almost every state except the New England states. Can we get a little CLOSER
like the state he was from?
