Hazel,
You should not have to be a member to get this. It should be free.

Anybody have any Childress relatives in the City of Ozona, Crockett County,
Texas in the 20th century? There is an Ozona City history book with some
20th century Childresses mentioned.
Gary
I am searching for information about my great-grandmother Amy CHILDRESS b.
1863. Amy married George ALDRIDGE in 1889 in Louisville MS. In the 1900
census she's 36 and enumerated with her husband George, age 42, and four
sons, Golden, Monroe, Plummer (sp?) and Crommer (sp?). I have no other
information about her. The family is not listed in the 1880 census and the
1910 census available to me is mostly illegible (faded). In the 1920 census,
two of their children, born after the 1900 census appear in the household of
one of the older sons. Any help or suggestions for locating information
would be greatly appreciated.

Mary Jean,
I have a reference in my records to a 1718 will of William Hobson, Jr.
that includes a bequest "To my sister Elizabeth Childress, wife of William
Childress." That William Childress, according to my records, was William
Burton Childress, son of Abraham Childers, who immigrated from England to
Virginia in 1658. William Burton was born circa 1664, in Curles, Henrico
County, Virginia, married Elizabeth circa 1690 and died in 1726. My records
also indicate that Elizabeth's father was William Hobson, Sr.

Dear Lee...thank you so much for the information...I am very surprised
that your records show that Elizabeth Hobson married William Burton
Childress! I did not have her as his wife, but will certainly search my
files again!
I have received abstracted copy of the will I asked about...that being
Henrico Co, VA will (parts missing) pp 265-268 are missing as well...here is
what I have:
"100 acres divided between said John and Joseph. To my sister Elizabeth
Childers, the wife of William Childers, a heifer. To sister Anne Hobson, a
heifer. All the rest to my two brothers John and Joseph Hobson, who are to
be exectors. Dated 7 April l7l8. Wit: Henry Hatcher, Jr., Amos Liptrott,
Martha Hatcher, Recorded 7 July l7l8"
Lee...do you have any other information on this line? My reasons are
that I am a direct descendant of Elizabeth HATCHER who married Thomas
CHILDRESS and his name has appeared on several HOBSON wills as witness...this
Thomas Childress also has appeared in other area's of VA where this family of
HOBSON & Hatcher live...I am trying to determine WHO these Childress/Childers
women are who married the HOBSONS (as my husband is the HOBSON descendant)
and as you can see...I am the CHILDRESS descendant...another marriage I have
found is a generation later marriage between a Sarah Childress and John or
Joseph HOBSON...Sarah Childress was to have been the daugh of a BENJAMINE
CHILDRESS....Thanks for any help! MaryJean Childress Voegtlin
Looking for the parents of John E. CHILDRESS born 14 May 1872 at Green
Castle, Sullivan Co., MO.
I do not have any idea of his parents first names or where they were from.
Only information on them comes from an application for membership in Modern
Woodmen of America dated March 4, 1911. On this my grandfather John E.
Childress states his father was 32 at time of death in 1872, the cause from
"wounded in war." It says his mother died at age 67 of Typhoid in 1904.
>From information received via an internet connection I have finally been
able to with a pretty good certainty establish who the siblings of John
were: "From Probate records of Putnam County, Missouri 1845 to 1909:
'Childers, Minors, Filed 9 Feb 1886 bk E Page 172. Children of Father
dec'd and Mother now wf of C.C. Davis. Income from their fathers pension
who survived in Army during Civil War. William B. Childers born 23 Nov
1867, Joel Childers born 23 May 1869, Anna Childers born 23 May 1869, John
Childers born 14 May 1872. C.C. Davis appointed guardian." (The county
seat for Putnam Co. is Unionville).
Then I also know that John married Emma HILL 24 June 1894 at Unionville,
Putnam Co., MO. They moved to Iola, Allen Co., KS in 1899. Their only
child, Virgil Victor was born 1895. Emma died in 1904. John did not raise
their son, but sent him to Emma's family. Does anyone have access to a 1900
Census and could look for John and Emma in Allen Co, there is also a
possibility they could first have lived at Yates Center, Woodson Co., KS in
1900.
John remarried in 1910 to Ethel Gantt. They had two sons, Harold Eugene (my
father) and John Samuel who was called Jack. John died in 1942.
I have done as much of the usual searching as I can via letters and now the
internet. I also received from the same internet source another clue which
might give me John's mother's first name. My source said that a Lewis/Louis
Davis, died 24 Aug 1900 and named a son C.C. Davis of Unionville, MO. Does
anyone have a 1900 Census of Putnam Co. who could look for this C.C. Davis
for me.
If anyone could help it would be greatly appreciated.
