I am visiting the Rosenberg Library in Galveston, Texas soon; on one floor
that has history of the island, there is information, in files I have been
told of George Campbell Childress of Texas...he helped write the Texas
Declaration of Indep. and died while in Galveston; his wife and children
were
in Tennessee at the time...I am not sure they know where his burial marker
is, but will find out....I feel the original tombstone, if there was one,
may have vanished in the 1900 flood....
If you have any info about him, or have already researched and know of a
location in Galveston of his burial, I would like to know....

For those of you who have been using my Childers (and all associated
variations), I have updated and provided a new look for the timeline. I
have
also added some data I had lost in emails sometime ago. Please provide
feedback so I may improve the site. There is a tremendous amount of data
in
the Timeline section, so give it plenty of time to load. Those of you
with
dial-up, I apologize in advance. Perhaps I can break the pages down if it
is a real problem.

Could this be the father of Joel CHILDRESS? The Joel CHILDRESS, who was
father of First Lady, Sarah CHILDRESS Polk? We now know Joel's fathers name
was Benjamin and his mother was Susan. There wasn't a Benjamin in the Heads of
Household for Halifax during the 1780s. Anyone have anything to share on
this?
