Yes, I have e-mailed the owner, and I have just noticed that Joseph
Childress' birth date is wrong. The 1787 date is actually the date of
his marriage in Surry County, NC, to Elizabeth Binkley. Joseph
Childress was born 25 Nov. 1764 in Goochland Co., VA, to William
Childress and his wife Ann as per an e-mail received from Con
Childress citing "The Douglas Register. Being a detailed record of
Births, Marriages and Deaths together with other interesting notes, as
kept by the Rev. William Douglas, from 1750 to 1797. An Index of
Goochland Wills. Notes on the French-Hugenot Refugees who lived in
Manakin-Town. Transcribed and Edited by W. Mac. Jones. Genealogical
Publishing Co., Inc. Baltimore 1977, p. 71."

Hello,
Thank you for the corrections. Kay's source is shown as Ancestry.com. So,
just a suggestion, I would contact the owner of the published file and let
them know. I assume then that the Childress connection is accurate? Its
really good when we post information like this as it certainly helps to verify
the Childress family and its connections. I don't speak for Kay, but I think
I share her opinion that - the more accurate and documented the material,
the better chance for success. Thanks!

An oral tradition among Elizabeth's descendants is that Elizabeth came
to America from Holland, but this is not supported by records.
Elizabeth's grandfather Peter Binkley was born in Switzerland, moved
to Alsace as a boy, and came to Pennsylvania in 1736. He never lived

Hi List,
This information has been published here before. However, since I've had
some inquires regarding Charlotte County (VA) Childress's, in the last few
months, I thought it might be a good idea! Anyone on the list whose ancestor
lived in Lunenburg in which parts were carved to make Charlotte County,
please publish your info. We need it! Another list member, (Kay) and I both,
after having discussed the Childress (variants too) in Charlotte County, feel
the need for discussion of these two people or on ANY Childress or
(variant).
Reasons? For one, the names. Not just "Childress" - but the Christian
names. For those who aren't familiar with what we mean? JOEL Childress
parents were SUSAN and BENJAMIN Childress. We know it for fact. List member Lee
Rau confirmed the father's name from NC court records involving JOEL
Childress as the orphan of BENJAMIN Childress. Another reason? JOEL Childress
ancestry has been made to be ultra important in the Childress / Childers
ancestry. However, it's actually based on theory. In which a purported ship
leaving Scotland, arrived in America (1745) and those were called Celtic and a
purported and entirely different and separate gene pool than the Childress (aka
variants) already in America. The rest of the theory is based on
genealogical information purported to be carved into a 15 foot tall tombstone of JOEL
Childress. No one living has seen it. JOEL by the way was the father of
First Lady, Sarah Childress Polk. (Theories Source:: Childress-List / DNA,
owners) -
Kay and I both believe there may be a link in the information below and
JOEL Childress ancestry. We also are very interested in the Inventory, 1779,
Charlotte Co, VA for BENJAMIN Childress. Its possible he was the BENJAMIN
shown in the document below. There is also information regarding Susannah LAX
who was shown to be married to a CHILDRESS before the 1778 WILL of her
father. In fact, she married two CHILDRESS. One of whom we believe to have been
Benjamin and the other we know to have been ABRAHAM Childress. Susannah is
sometimes shortened to SUSAN. Susannah had a brother named JOEL. Any help
or opinion would be appreciated. THANKS!
