Hello List,
RE: CHILDRESS - ESTES - COX - -
This was posted quite a while ago on the Estes genforum - in response to a
message I had written asking about Millie COX. I was very interested in that I'm
a direct Estes descendant. As most of you know, the Estes had about three to
four marriages with Childress. Having said that, I had actually read about
it in the publication I subscribe to, "Estes Trails". Anyway, here is the
message I received on genforum, (didn't get a notice either!) I didn't see it at
the time. Thought those of you who read Gary / Mark Childress message about
this lineage on the Childress-List, well, they had it confused, but in case
you're interested - This message was to me. I'm going to work on it time
permitting.

If you are still seeking the information on the daughter of Mildred "Milly"
Estes and Frederick Cox who married a Childress, it appears the daughter is
Nancy Cox who married THOMAS CHILDRESS. The following information is on the
Internet:
When Mildred Cox, wife of Frederick, died there was a court case brought by
one of her granddaughters and her husband to get her share of the estate (her
mother being dead). Mildred Cox's Estate Records are found at the State
Archives in Raleigh, NC. Following is a part of that case that gives information for
Frederick and Mildred Cox's children:
"Your orators further sheweth your Honor that the following are the children
of the said Milly Cox to Wit. The Defendants Isham Cox who lives in the state
of Tennessee (later Ala)[;] John Cox who lives beyond the limits of the state
(in Va)[;] Francis who intermarried with Philip ANGLIN both of whom live in
Virginia[;] Armin, intermarried with Thos BOULDIN who resides in Virginia[;]
Mary, intermarried with Jonathan VERNON who lives in Ohio[;] Sally, intermarried
with the defendant John SIMMONS who resides in the county of Stokes (NC). All
the above children survived their mother. They further show that said Milly
Cox had a daughter named Nancy who intermarried with Thomas CHILDRESS, & by whom
she had an only child a daughter which daughter intermarried with ____ RIDDLE
by whom she had _____ children, whose names are unknown to our orators & who
reside in South Carolina, and that said CHILDRESS & wife and RIDDLE & wife all
died in the lifetime of said Milly COX, and that letters of administrations
was legally granted to the estate of ___. Your orators shew that the said
Mildred COX had a Daughter named Mildred, who after she arrived of full age, died in
the life time of her mother in 1822. - - END - -
Feel free to ask questions. I'd be happy to help. Thanks.
MaryJean (Childress Voegtlin)
