MaryJean,
In as much as I have seen and nothing documented to the contrary, Yes,
I would say that this Abraham Childres/Childers son of William Childers,
Immigrant BIRTH: 1599, Cantley, Yorkshire, England * DEATH: 1649,
Jamestown, James City, Virginia Burial Jamestown, James City, VA and
Dame Anne Ramsden Born: 1604 in Yorkshire, England * MARRIAGE: 1617,
Yorkshire, England, did marry Jane Anne Howard. If someone can prove
this marriage incorrect and prove correctly, which female this Abraham
married, then I would go with the proven marriage. For now I tend to
believe this Abraham, son of William Childers, married Jane Anne Howard.
Children of William Childers and Dame Anne Ramsden were:
1.Abraham CHILDERS I b:30 NOV 1622 in Nottinghamshire, England Came
to America in 1649. ABRAHAM was first seen in ............Henrico
County in 1649.(about 27 years old)He bought land from William Harris.

lived in Bermuda Hundred. Purchased a plantation at Curles, Bermuda

old)

CORRECTION -
List, I went back over the MO Census for 1860, there was male aged 50 in the
HH of Hannah Childress, his name was ROBERT L. CHILDRESS, I suspect he was
husband of Hannah and father of Creed Childress in this household. Robert L.
Childress would have been born 1810 TN, leaving me to wonder if he was the son of
Robert Childress, son of John Childress (1759-1848-9)? Or perhaps son of any
of John's sons. Anyone?

List,
Some time ago, I had mentioned the name Creed Childress, son of Abraham
Childres, often referred to as Abraham Childers lll. Abraham left a 1763/64
Albemarle Co, VA Will and his youngest son was named CREED.
The Christian name CREED exists today. I was doing some work for real estate
and while searching names, I came across 9 by the Christian name of CREED,
last name CHILDRESS, in the following states, TN, CA, MO and FL. Knowing the
name CREED came out of the Childress family and became a namesake in the family
of JOHN CHILDRESS 1759-1848/9, I have to wonder if these 9 men are his
descendants? Would anyone know them? The TN Creed Childresses were from Knox
County. It would certainly be interesting to know. Thanks!

Ok... Dennstedt "On 20 Nov. 1680 Abraham Chi1dres (Jr.) exchanged land with
John Pleasants. He was to receive 548 acres on Four Mile Creek and 900
pounds of tobacco from Pleasants and in turn conveyed to him 140 acres
"being the whole dividend which was purchased by my father Abrah Childers of
Major William Harris" and "given unto me as of his will."
Valentine: ". Abraham Childers conveys to John Pleasants , 12 acres on S.
side Four Mile Creek for 750 lbs tobacco and cask (Ibid. 238), 16 May 1692"
and "The Valentine Papers, Vol 1-4, 1864-1908 Randolph Family Order Books
Richard Randolph from James Cocke deed for £190: 150 acres called Curles
being in the parish and County of Henrico on the north side of James River
"which was formerly the inheritance of William Harris and was by him sold
and conveyed to Abraham Childers and by the (said) Abraham Childers was sold
and conveyed to John Pleasants the said James Cocke 's grandfather." Ibid.
p. 387. abt 1755"
There was so much land going back and forth they probably didn't even have
time to record before itwas traded again. What difference does it make as
long as we know who got what and when. hell the surveys could have been
wrong if there were one. They almost always say in a transfer more or less.
10 acres in 150.... 10 % shoot.

Mary Jean,
I believe his first name may have been Henry. Now let's see if you can
guess his last name. I'll give you one hint. It wasn't Childress or
Childers or Childres or Childrey. By the way, have you actually read
Dennstedt?

Green,
I read Dennestedt series about 6 years ago. I gave my paper copy away, I
didn't have it downloaded. A couple of weeks ago, it was sent to me and I
downloaded it. I haven't printed it out yet. My question was two fold which I
failed to mention and that was Hatcher, the surname intermarried with
Childers/ress. Sorry Green, I don't always believe what I read.

It has been awhile since our last, but I have finally found time to complete
this update. New information is in the Timeline, new research links and
updated Childres and related Wills. Enjoy your search and just look around,
you may find something new you weren't looking for.
Special thanks to Marie Jennings for sharing a great plat of the area where
our Child?? first settle in Virginia. It is contributions by people like
her that keep OUR site fresh and new. Thanks Marie!!

There are a lot of familiar names in there, but nothing to tie them all
together. Very interesting though.

List,
Below is an address which has a notation of an ANN CHILDRESS who married
1700
to JOHN ATKINS. Anyone have a guess as to who was Ann's father?

Joe and List,
I need to correct my last post. Instead of saying
"This land in mentioned only indirectly in the codicil.", I should have said
that this land was mentioned only in part as 70 acres (not the full 140 --
or 150 as in one listing) and indirectly in the codicil.
Sorry about that.
Green Ayres
Green,
So are you saying the ABSTRACT of the will for John Pleasants (Steve Stevens
website) has bogus infomation?
Thanks,
MJ
Joe and List,
Actually this makes it more interesting amd more damning. The Curles land
that Abraham II had traded for the 548 acres (which Abraham II later sold
back to Pleasants) was not mentioned directly in the will. This land in
mentioned only indirectly in the codicil.
"The land given to daughter Elizabeth Pleasants, is already in possession of
her and her husband James Cocke."
See the notes following the will in the Valentine Papers for details.
So where did the number 580 acres come from? Looks more like a fabrication
now than ever.

Mary Jean and List,
If he didn't fabricate it and this is the only transaction then he was
definitely lost. In partaicular, you said
>According to the abstract copy of John Pleasants of Curles, Henrico Co, VA
>WILL, dated Sept. 27, 1690, page 149 -
>"LAND PURCHASED OF ABRAH CHILDERS, 548 ACRES" -
This land is on the opposite side of Four Mile Creek and not on the SOUTH
side as Garland said. If this is the land Garland was talking about then he
would have mixed up the land which Abraham II got from John Pleasants (the
548 acres) with the land he traded to John Pleasants (at Curles) in the
1680-1 land trade. I doubt that he would have considered these two pieces
of property as one and the same. Moreover this is for 548 acres and not 580
acres as he said. Garland said this land was at Curles, the 548 acres is not
located there. Is there a land transaction of 580 acres "lying on ye South
Side of Four Mile Creek, and bounding upon Curles Swamp"? The one you cited
isn't it.
