Richard Childress / Nancy Owings 1790s SC
by Stephen G. Ekern, Esq.
I am desperate for help!!
My father's DNA is "Viking". (although I am not sure if he has been added
to the spreadsheet yet.)
Our earliest documented ancestor is Richard Childress b. May 20, 1791 in
North Carolina. He married, about 1828, Nancy Owings b. about 1790 in South
Carolina. Nancy Owings is a daughter of Richard Owings, IV of Laurens, SC.
They had at least two children, made difficult by the fact that they keep
changing what they call them!!
CRR Childress, aka JR, or Richard b. October 29, 1830 in Laurens, SC; and
Perry Childress b. about 1833
CRR/Richard married Annie Dial, also of Laurens, SC
I have been searching for ten years for Richard Childress (May 20, 1971)
parents, and now that I know the DNA results it should make it easier, but
it doesn't!!
There was another Childress family in Laurens, SC at the time - Richard
Alexander Childress, Sr. I believe that our families are cousins, but have
not proved that yet.
I am wondering if the name "Perry" offers any clues, and have been working
with the possibly theory that my Perry was a cousin or nephew to another
Perry Childress, son of John Childress and Catherine Cantrell.
Other names that intermarry with my Childress line are: ABERCROMBIE,
BROOKS, DIAL, HELLAMS, OWINGS, STUDDARD/STODDARD
Thank you in advance for your help!
Sincerely,
Sarah Childress Ekern
