Hi Kay -
Hi List -
REF- Benjamin Childress and the Joplin's (Jopling) -
Have you seen other marriages between the JOPLIN's (Jopling) and the
Childress's? There were two weren't there? What names do you show? I
believe you posted data on these families, please share this with us (again)
and in particuliar Steven, whose researching this branch. Thanks!

Hi Steve and List members,
I have a Benjamin Childers/Childress b abt 1740Amherst Co, Va md to Ann
Joplin, who provided Beef to the American Army during the Rev. War.
SOURCES:
1..Broderbund Family Archive #310. ed 1 Census Index Colonial
America, 1607-1789
2. The National Genealogical Society Quarterly, Vol 1-85,
1600s-1900s...Abstracts Of Revolutionary War Pensions Appl.p67
The above had a son named Benjamine born 03/apr/1764 Rockfish River,
Amherst Co. Va. died abt 1857. This Benjamin
entered the service at age 16 (Oct., 1780) served two mos and one week
under Capt. Christian Va Troops. Two weeks later he was ordered to
Yorktown where he was "reduced to a mere skeleton by disease, Benjamin
was given leave and the war ended before he could recover. DAR No.
57-620 Benjamin had a younger brother named Samuel Childers/Childress.
Benjamin was married 1st Ann Key Johnson. Had son named Benjamin W.
Childers/Childress born about 1804. 2nd Mary Ann McKabe, had son Robert
Childers/Childress born about 1811
I do not have anything about the Benj and Susannah Childress/Childers
who received assistance other than what was posted to the list.
Maybe the above Benjamins are the subject of your recent post?
Father and Son? Anyone else have an opinion or idea about this
subject?
Who is this Benjamin in Charlotte Co.? Anyone?
p 117:
1777 The following made applications for supplies represented as "being very
poor;--
5. The petition of Susannah Childress, the wife of Benjamin Childress a
soldier in the continental service "from this Country to the state of
Georgia."

families were furnished with supplies while they were in active service:--
4. Benjamin Childress, (wife Susan),---continental service

This can't possibly be the same person who supposedly gave food to the army
during the revolution. Is it possible we have at least 3 Benjamin
Childress/Childre/Childres in this area at the same time?

Bonjour Bob and all list members,
Ditto the message posted by MaryJean. And I add that I could not have
chosen a better list to post Childress/Childers/Childrey/
Childres/Chiles/Childre/etc information on, than this list with this
list owner.
Happy New Year to Bob, our fair and fearless list owner and to all our
list members. May the New Year bring peace, love and happiness to all
of you and, some sense, to those not members of this list, who need more
sense desperately. No harm intended, and the afore statement does not
reflect the opinion of this list, just mine, and in no way is attributed
to any living or dead Childress that I know. Ahhh but there is the rub,
I do not no every
one. :) Cheers and Happy New Year Y'all. :0)

Dear Bob,
Bravo! What an honor and they made the right choice! I look forward to
reading the message boards! Thank you very much for the compliment, I
appreciate it. The Childress family is so fascinating and full of
interesting families - All of them are unique in their own way and that's
what makes our name so tough, but worthwhile! Let's all hope for a good year
in Childress Research!
Have a great New Year Bob and once again, congratulations! The same to all
our list members and God bless all of you!
MaryJean Childress Voegtlin
Thanks to everybody who have helped make this listing an open forum to
express one's opinion without fear of banishment. Particular thanks to Kay
and MaryJean for their untiring research on the Childress/Childers/Childres
surnames.
I am now the administrator for the Childress, Childers, and Childres message
boards on Rootsweb. The Childress message board in particular has many
interesting messages added each month. It might be of interest to those of
you who want added information the these surnames. Unfortunately I can't link
the Childress message board to this Childress Research listing since the
title is different.
I hope everybody has a wonderful Christmas and a New Year filled with more
genealogical finds than ever before!!!!!! (I'm a dreamer lol)
