Kay,
Thanks for the information on James Locke Childress' family. I wonder who
Mary L. Bradford was???????
I just received Martin Phifer Jr,'s Revolutionary War pension application
information today. He was James Locke's Grandfather and the person through
who's service I was able to join the SAR. What Martin said about his service
blows out of the water everything I ever read about his service in the
Revolution. Interesting how a family will twist around an ancestor's life in
the decades that follow his death.....

Wright Hamner Dawson of Norton, Va." She is buried at the Mt. Zion Church, Esmont,
Va. Benjamin Dawson is believed to be buried at Glendower in Albemarle Co., near
Keene, Va. Glendower, once a small community, is also believed to be where his
mill was located on Totier Creek. The Hedian papers go on to say: "Benjamin was
the favorite of his uncle, Martin Dawson (4-39). They quarreled and Benjamin was
disinherited. This is legend. Benjamin heard Martin was ill and came to see him.
As soon as Martin saw him he called for pen and paper to write a new will. This is
fact. After Martin's death.the will was contested The codical added just before
Martin's death made Benjamin the sole heir of Bellair,a beautiful estate on the
Hardware River east o Charlottesville, Virginia. Benjamin moved to Bellair from
Nelson County in 1836. The will was contested and Benjamin lost. From Bellair, he
moved near his wife's people on Ballenger Creek"...He purchased many acres in this
area"
Benjamin purchased a house in Scottsville, mortgaged Ballenger Creek, and then
deeded the Ballenger Creek property in its entirety to his son, Benjamin Henry
Dawson, in return for which Benjamin Henry assumed the mortgage.. One of the most
