Thanks so much for this information. It really does help.
The J. in the CSA also could be a son of William....or a son of one of the other Drewry sons.

It is my understanding that the Childree family cemetery was sacrificed to widen a highway some years ago. I don't know if the graves were moved or covered with asphalt.
The people buried there were:
Childree, Amanda Whatley (wife of David Abner Childree)
b. Jun 1848 - d. 08 Dec 1885
Childree, Barbrey (wife of Drewry Childree)
b. about 1797/1800
Childree, Drewry (the Patriarch)
b. about 1774/76 - d. after 1860
Childree, Elizabeth Wilson (wife of William Childree)
b. 1825 - d. after 1879
Childree, William (son of Drewry Childree)
b. about 1816 - d. about 1859
I have no photos of the cemetery. The fact is I've never set foot in Taylor County. My father's branch of the family lived near Americus in Sumter County.
As to the identity of the J. Childree who volunteered for the Georgia 12th regiment, company C, I don't know exactly who that was. My great grandfather, David Abner Childree served in that unit as did his brothers Drewry Nicholas and William Washington Childree.
There are several variants of the Childree family history. One of these versions states that Drewry Childree had two wives and fathered ten sons. No daughters are mentioned, but I find it almost impossible to believe that he sired ten consecutive sons and no daughters.
Anyway, the ten sons version contains three with names beginning with the letter J - John H. Childree (1822 - ?), James F. Childree (1839 - 1880?), and Josiah Childree (? - ?).
John and James definitely existed and they both migrated to Barbour County, Alabama where they married and presumably settled. It's unlikely that they served in a Georgia infantry regiment. But Josiah probably lived in Georgia at the time. Assuming the ten brothers version is correct. He would probably have been 16-18 years old when the war started. There are almost zero records about Josiah Childree available online. He may have married a woman name Delila.
This is my best educated guess.
In case you didn't know this, the descendents of Drewry Childree who bear the name Childree are concentrated in four areas - Central and Southwest Georgia, Southeast Alabama, East Central Texas, and North Florida. The Texas branch is descended from one or more of the Childrees who left Georgia for Alabama. I can't remember which ones.
I hope this helps.
I don't have any pictures or know if it has been destroyed. Will have to get
family in that area of Georgia to look for me. The following is all I have
on it. I don't even know if this is a complete list of the Cemetery or just
part.
