Hi Cass,
I hope your email still works. It's been awhile since we communicated. I've been researching the Childers lineage in Wilkes Co NC (and previously in Henrico, Goochland, Albemarle VA). I think Milner Childers born 1760s in Wilkes co NC was my ancestor via a daughther. The bondsman for the 2 Jan 1822 marriage of your John Childers and Nancy Brooks (Wilkes NC) was my ancestor, David Wilkey (born 1783) who I think married a Childers daughter of Milner. David also provided an affidavit for Milner Childers' pension application c1822.
Another affidavit was from Sarah Vickas/Vickers, who I just found was the Sarah Childers who married Elijah Vickas 29 Dec 1783 Wilkes Co NC with John Vickas bondsman. This suggests Sarah may have been Milner Childers' sister (or at least a cousin). This Sarah is listed in family trees as a daughter of Capt. John Childers 1730s-1824 and Rachel Perkins and this John as a son of Henry Childers.
My information suggests Milner descends from Thomas Childers and second wife Mary Milner through their son John and his son John (or through another son vis Mary Milner).
I have a few other possible hints. Please reply or email me to discuss (gkcarson(a)aol.com) further.
Thanks,
Gary Carson
