This is the file that we are using as a "starting point" for the "Viking Childers/Childress Family." This is updated as new information can be determined by various researchers:

It was Abraham Childers "III" and Elizabeth Cannon who were the parents of the Tabitha Childers to married my ggggg-grandfather Hezekiah Davidson (not a Thomas Childers). Abraham "III" was a son of Abraham "II" and a grandson of Abraham "I. Abraham "I" had an apparent cousin who was named Philemon "I," and many living people in this overall family descend from Philemon.
There are several people working at this time who are trying to get the "family tree" for this overall Childers/Childress family as accurate as possible. DNA testing on living males with the surname of Childers/Childress is proving to be a help in that regard.

Thanks for the reply. The message board indicated I had a reply although it's impossible for me to determine if it's a reply to my original message (back in 2007) or to a later reply!
Which Thomas Childers was the father of your Tabitha Childers?
Your Thomas Childers line would be related to mine somehow. My ancestor Milner Childers born c1760 shows up by late 1780s in Wilkes Co NC. I think Milner's father and grandfather were both named John. Milner's father John Childers born c1730 VA died 1780s Wilkes Co NC and grandfather John Childers born c1695-1700 in Henrico VA died after 1768 in Henrico). John Sr 1695-1768 was a son of Thomas Childers 1671-1735 and Mary Milner. They had a son Thomas born c1695 died 1758 VA. This Thomas (son of Thomas "Sr") married Elizabeth Hatcher born c1700. They had children Benjamin, Jeremiah, Elizabeth and Thomas born c1725. Son Benjamin had a son named Thomas Chiders born c1750 Henrico VA?
Milner Childers applied for and got a Rev War pension 1820s with a Gabriel Childers in NC providing an affidate fpr the pension application. I doesn't say how they were related. I think the Albemarle Co VA Childers families were the same as Henrico and later in NC and branches in GA.
Thanks, Gary

The Hezekiah/Ezekiah Davidson who was in Albemarle Co., VA in the 1740s and 1750s married Tabitha Childers, a daughter of Abraham Childers "III" and Elizabeth Cannon. Mathew Tucker married Lucretia Childers, and Lucretia was Tabitha's sister. There was also a Samuel Taylor who married Sophia/Sophronia/Ionah Childers (her given name has been shown in many different ways), and she was another daughter of Abraham Childers "III" and Elizabeth Cannon.
Samuel Taylor and his wife sold Hezekiah Davidson and Tabitha 100 acres of land in Cumberland Co., VA in 1760, and Hezekiah (died about 1793) and Tabitha then apparently lived in Cumberland Co., VA for the rest of their lives. They were my paternal ggggg-grandparents.

In process of finding a record for a child of Rosabell Childers who md 1876 Lane Co Oregon to Preston Thatcher Poe or Powe ,
Preston T Poe's obit was on following findagrave.com site saying he was an
1864 Oregon Trail pioneer -and several other Childers families were also 1864 Oregon Trail pioneers from MO to Oregon
It's not known exactly which Childers kin traveled together on Oregon Trail in 1864; so I pursued vital records about the parents of the above Preston T Poe/Powe
-
CITATION: says with his parents Margaret P. and J. C. Powe they traveled
1864 by oxen train from MO to Oregon in 29 july 1921 Idaho Post obit at

Reportedly they appear in 1850 and 1860 US censuses in
places like Clay Co MO
But I show here their 1870 US census because no other internet family tree shows that 1864 they went by oxen from MO to Oregon from 29 july 1921 Idaho Post obit seen in
