are recently posted now 366 descendants, and 200 of their spouses,
of 1760s Amherst Co. VA family of parents Mary and Joseph Childers.
Some, of those descendants, went on to some of same places (e.g. Greenbrier Co VA/WV and Grant Co KY and Scotland Co MO)
but actually, DNA studies have shown that they weren't genetically related in USA to the more numerous Henry & Susannah (Goolsby) Childers family then 1760s of Amherst Co VA
-
Overall, other prominent descendants' locations of Joseph Childers 1760s family of Amherst Co VA settled in Franklin Co IN, Decatur Co IN, Jackson Co OH, Adams Co IL, Putnam Co MO.

Hi...
Thanks for the response to my post re: Martin Childers. I, too, have found Martin and Mastin Childers both listed in various places and sometimes confused. I at first thought that Mastin was a mispelling for Martin, but I have since concluded that not to be the case. My Martin Childers was born somewhere in SC... MAYBE Laurens county, where I found him in one Census before he moved on to Georgia. He was living near a Thomas Childers who lived next door in a subsequent Census in Georgia. I viewed this as a possible Father, but have not been able to find adequate documentation to be sure.
Another researcher thought that Martin's father might be an Abraham Childers from York County, SC. I find no proof of that either... One thing I do know... Martin married someone by the name of Elizabeth and they had two children before they left SC... James b 1823 and Benjamin Franklin b 1825. Benjamin was my great grandfather. He married someone by the name of Electa Caroline Brown. The other Martin Chiders children were all born in Georgia, eventually settling around Cartersville and finally on to Alabama after the Civil War. Benjamin's son, Felton (my grandfather, moved to Florida in the early-mid 1900s where my family comes from.
Pls contact me directly at childers(a)hotmail.com and we can discuss sharing info, etc.

I am interested in what you find out about his parents. I have a Mastin Childers that I at first thought was named Martin...and I don't know who his parents were. Mastin was born about 1807 in SC, moved to GA around 1830, and ultimately settled in Oglethorpe County, married to Martha Bradford. He's not yours...I see yours in various censuses. I have seen records for both names Martin and Mastin in various locations in SC and GA...am happy to share my Martin notes with you, please email me...thanks!

H E L P ! I am at a stand still. Cannot find anything further. Can anyone help?
Martin Childers (married to Elizabeth) born somewhere in SC about 1794; moved to Georgia in early-mid 1840s. Children included James (b 1823), Benjamin Franklin (b 1825)--both born in SC. Cannot find where they lived or were married in SC or who Martin's parents were or even Elizabeth's maiden name.
Benjamin F married Electa Caroline Brown(b1834 SC) in Bartow County, GA in 1849.

John Childers was b 1800 GA, m1 Nancy Hammock 17 June 1821 Jones Co GA. M2 Caroline Cosby 7 Oct 1855 in Talbot Co GA.
He is NOT the John Childers of Grant Co KY who d 1840.
In 1860 he is m to Caroline. His children by first marriage, Rebecca F and Sarah R are with them as well as a new son by Caroline who is John Henry Childers b Aug 1859. His 7 yr old Elmira Z is with her sister Nancy Lumpkin.
John Childers is age 70 in 1870 and Caroline is 47. John H is age 10.
John Childers died shortly after then and Caroline and John Henry moved to Grimes, Pike Co AL by 1880. John Henry Childers m Beulah B Johnson in 1886. John Henry and Beulah are in Dixon Pike in 1910 and Brundidge in 1920. He is not on the census again. Beulah Childers died in Brundidge Pike Co AL 21 June 1951.
Caroline Cosby is probably the child of Hickerson Cosby and Mary Williams. Her age is never consistant on Census.
This posting is to "unconfuse" the John Childers of GA with the John Childers b 26 Jan 1797 in VA and d 1840 in Grant Co KY son of Henry Childers and Mary C Thompson. This John Childers m Jane Pierce 25 June 1822 in KY.
Thanks and hope this helps the folks who have confused the two men. Eleanor Greene Hemmes HemmesEG(a)aol.com

Dr. Henry Childers was born ca 1808 Amherst Co VA and died ca 1845 Boone Co. KY, his wife makes census searching easier as Eliza Carey was born in DE

Recently a lot more Childers and Childress kin of Boone Co KY in mid-1800s have been identified at

More work could be done soemtime to clear up remaining discrepancies
