Looking for more info on Sherod Childers, b. 1824 York County, S.C. ... married Nancy also from York County. I have the 1850, 1860 and 1870 Census.
I found a couple of different Civil War records, including 2 Sherods that were POWs ... can't figure out which one is which .... I know that after the war he moved his family to Bakersville, N.C.
Not sure what took him there, but this is where my line of Childers start in N.C., the surname ends with my Grandmother Malissie Childers that died before my father (Ernest Gouge, Jr.) turned 2.
Any info on his civil war record and what brought him to Bakersville, would be appreciated!
Thanks!!!

Mosby and Pleasant were not brothers. DNA Testing has already proven this beyond a shadow of a doubt. Mosby and Pleasant's wives were sisters though, both being daughters of Nathanial and Mary Jeffries.

I think that Sarah and Elizabeth were sisters. Both of them had a father named Nathaniel Jefferies or Jeffers, right?

Sorry. I have 2 other John Childers sons, but none who would fit into that birth year. Both would have been born 1820-30. If I find anything, I'll be sure to post it, though.

I am descended from John Childers b. abt. 1801 who married Ursula DeMoss. I tried very hard to make Mosby Childers fit as my John's father, but could not document it and concluded it was not a match. It's been a very long time since I worked this line, so would appreciate any help you might be able to give. Lucinda Childers, dau. of John and Ursula, married Robert B. Powell b. 1833.

This is part of my tree. Jesse Childers is the brother of my ggggrandfather, James C. Childers. A lot of these Childers stayed in southern Illinois until the early 1900's when many moved to Michigan. I'd like to exchange info! Janet Griffin Potts

If your Jesse Childers was born 1806 in TN (or VA, as I've also seen it)and was the son of Richard Childers, born abt 1785 in TN, then I would be very interested in the information. I have a lot of the information going forward, but don't know the name of his mother, grandparents, etc. I am a descendent of Jesse's brother, James C. Childers, father of Elbert Childers, father of James Monroe Childers, father of Beulah Childers, mother of Jerald Griffin, father of me, Janet Griffin Potts.
