Hi again!
My great-great-grandfather, Charles Louis Childers was married twice: 1st to Helen Hoult, and 2nd to Annie Pernell. I was told that Charles left the 1st family to start the second one, which was our brance. But now that I have a few more dates, that doesn't totally match up. Charles married Annie in 1895, while my great-grandfather, Charles Okey Childers, was 9 at that time. Does anyone have any information on Helen and who her kids were?
Thanks,
Jason

Hi all,
I'm trying to find information on John Childers, born c. 1725, who settled in what is now West Virginia, and had a son, William, by his wife, whose maiden name was Finley. Does anyone have any more information than that?
Thanks.

My gggg was William C. Childers ress son of Abraham who was full blood Cherokee. According to some info Abraham died on the Trail of Tears. His wife was Nancy Patsy Wilkerson, was half Cherokee. I found Lemuel on the rolls of Cherokee East of the Mississippi before 1835. Also some info connects Lemuel and Gideon as brothers of Abraham. Any info you can provide will help.

My mother was adopted. We know her mother's name is Mary Salee and she was apparently Cherokee Indian. We also heard she had lived on a reservation in Oklahoma. I know it's not much to go on but... it is what I have.

SPARTA CHILDERS BUSE was born 3 Dec 1841 and died 13 Mar 1871, and was the younger sister of my g-grandmother. Sparta is buried in a thicket alongside County Road 1275, just south of Baldwyn, Lee Co, MS. Milton Copeland sent me a picture of her headstone and the information regarding her burial site.
Sparta and Benjamin Thomas Buse were married 13 Jul 1864 in Itawamba Co, MS.

Sandy,
I think I've received all your emails except the very first one and we can ignore the error messages, as they seem to be the problem.
I see that I made an error in my previous post, in estimating year of death of Sparta Childers. It should read 1867 - 1874 (obviously not 77-84 - duh!) and she is likely buried in northern Miss.
A side note that could explain some of the confusion over Miss or AL residence for early settlers. There's an article on the internet at:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marion_County,_Alabama that states that part of what is now MS was part of AL in the early 1800's. Scroll down to the reprint of an article that was published in the March 20, 1988 edition of ''The Commercial Dispatch'' of Columbus, MS. In those early days, there were probably quite a few deeds stating that land was in AL, rather than MS. Just a thought.

Not part of the Childers line, per se, but I suspect from the name, location, & age that this person was Mary Buse's
brother:

The wife's name is different, but from the ages of the
children I suspect she was a 2nd wife, which means that
Sparta likely died between 1877 - 1884.
In the same 1880 Census, Mary Buse and her mother Elizabeth
(who lived with Henry P. & Mary) are both listed as white,
which doesn't mean they were:

Interesting find on CHILDS in Greene Co in 1823.
My notes on the move to Greene:
Moving West to Greene County, Alabama
Joseph Childers, youngest son of Jonathan and Mary CHILDERS, headed west to Greene County, Alabama to set down his roots. This happened between 1830 and 1834. Joseph must have met with success because his parents and brothers Henry W., Francis Marion "Frank", William, and John Jr. followed soon after. All had adjoining homesteads to one another except for the Henry W. CHILDERS family that lived apart.
John "Jonathan" CHILDERS died 1834 in Greene County, Alabama at the indicated age of eighty-four.

I'd appreciate anything anyone has.
One online resource for Henry Patrick Childers, from the Daughters of the Confederacy (P. 66 - 67 of the book):

I'm not certain if this is the same person - from:
EARLY LAND OWNERS OF GREENE COUNTY AL (Thru 1830)
http://magnolia.cyriv.com/GreeneAlGenWeb/History/LandOwners.asp
there is a Jonathan Childs listed as having acquired Fed land on 01 Dec 1823.
